A to Z Challenge: The Letter Y

United States
March 30, 2016 11:02pm CST
I was thinking that this would be a difficult letter to come up with things about which to write. 1. Yahoo: I do have a Yahoo account and I use it for numerous things. 2. Yahweh: The name of the Almighty God of the Bible, which is also pronounced Jehovah, Jeova and Yehovah and many other ways in different languages. 3. Yard: My yard is nice, especially my back yard which is completely enclosed with shrubbery and trees. It’s very private and we have our own “zoo” there. We have squirrels, rabbits, deer and groundhogs, along with foxes and frogs, snakes and lizards and numerous birds, all of which have been seen in our back yard. We even had a bear that was running loose in our area and had to be captured. 4. Yawn: I’m doing that right now because it is almost midnight and I’ve been up and busy all day again. 5. Yeast: Yeast Bread, to be exact. I make my own bread from scratch sometimes, but I also purchase frozen dough if I’m in a hurry. 6. Yellow River (Hwang Ho) in China. I wrote a very interesting (I thought) report on floods on the Yellow River over the centuries. Millions have died in these floods. 7. Yodel: Yes, I know how to yodel. I learned how, when I was twelve years old. I stayed up all night until I learned how to do it. And I have not forgotten how. One thrill for me was that I got to yodel with a group in Switzerland. It was awesome. 8. Yogurt: I try to eat yogurt every day. It’s always in my refrigerator. I especially like Greek yogurt with fruit. 9. Yesterday: One of the Beatles songs that I have sung many times at karaoke. 10. Yours truly. That’s me. Signing off for the night. I hope you have a wonderful rest of the week. Picture by Pixabay

@jstory07 That's nice. I love my back yard and all that goes on back there. I love looking out my kitchen window in the morning and evening to see what I might happen to see. Once in the afternoon, I saw a baby deer cross just near the window and wondered where the mother deer was. I never saw her.

Yes, I love my back yard. The picture is from Pixabay, but it looks very much like my back yard.

@MGjhaud Yes, I left plates of food on the porch for them. Sometimes they would look at me with such soft eyes. I really wanted to pet them, but I knew that would probably not be a good idea.

No, my yard is not gated. I looks very much like the picture I put up from Pixabay. There is plenty of grass and then the trees go all around the back and sides of the yard, so that it is all enclosed. The groundhogs and the rabbits come out of our woods to the back of the property and eat the clover when it blooms. It's like a banquet to them. And we had a whole family of foxes that stayed for a couple years. One day I had thrown out some old bread for the birds and I noticed the cat was looking so curiously out the window, so I went to see what he was looking at and I saw this FOX gobbling up the bread. Since winter was coming on, I continued to be concerned about the fox and put out more food for it. Then I saw in the Spring that three baby foxes were playing in the back yard. The mother and father were there also. They were so cute. The adult foxes would come in broad daylight, and through the screen door I could coax them up on the porch and often they would sit in the sun in the driveway. I never got close to them, because after all, they were wild and I didn't want to be bitten, but they were not afraid of me.

Yellow is a beautiful color. I don't wear a lot of yellow clothes though, because I don't look good in that color. It's a wonderful color for Spring and Summer.

I'm not sure who started the challenge, but I've enjoyed doing it. I have completed the entire alphabet and in doing so, I have recalled many fond memories and had something to write about that I think others enjoy reading. I do wish that others would accept the challenge so that I could read and enjoy learning more about others on MyLot.

@jstory07 Good. I hope you will accept the challenge. Try to name ten things that perhaps tells a little about you or the things you like or the places you have been, or the music and movies that you love. It's fun to do. Just start with A and go through the alphabet. It gives you 26 articles to write so when you can't think of something else to write about, pick a letter and write your ten things. Believe me other people will respond. I especially will enjoy these articles, so be sure and tag me, so I won't miss it.
