Haircut Anxiety?

I haven't had my hair professionally cut for about 2 years now. Maybe more. Can't even remember. I get really nervous when I think of going to get a haircut, because the hairdresser will always remind me of how weak and damaged my hair is, and try to push treatments and products on me. I feel like they judge me, and my hair, as if I need to feel even more insecure than I already am. When I was about 8 years old, a hairdresser cut my hair too short. I hated it, and have since then been really scared of haircuts. The past 3 years, I have been trying to grow my hair long, because I have never had long hair. But there is this voice in me that says, do something new, something exciting. It doesn't have to be short, but it feels like that's what I need to make me a new person. Or maybe I'm just talking crazy, because I still get jittery if I think of looking up a good hair salon nearby.

You should be nervous my friend. I was a hairdresser and I was shocked at how too short some work colleagues would cut peoples hair..they dont listen and just do what they want, not what the customers want. Try to ask for the best stylist in the salon, someone who is experienced and does good work.

Your hair looks fine, a tad "devil may care," but full and pretty. I'd put on my assertiveness and say "cut off an inch. Get rid of those split ends. But nothing else, please." It'll help you overcome that early bad experience.

After 2 years of not having my hair cut, I decided i was bored of my hair and needed it gone! It was 21 inches long before I got it cut and now it's in a short graded bob and I love it. All I can suggest really is to ask friends and family for recommendations for a good hairdresser that will be able to look at you and know what styles will or wont suit you and your face shape/hair type etc. Some hairdressers are pushy about products, and I think that's because they may well get commission if they sell certain ones, just be firm and tell them no thank you.
