Are earnings your only interest here?

We have all encountered many discussions extolling the virtues of Mylot and expressing how much people enjoy the site. However, I cannot help but wonder how many people would still use Mylot if not for the earnings system. I recall the time a few years ago when Mylot announced that the earnings program was due to finish. They gave advance notice and if I remember correctly they paid everyone who had accrued $5 or over. This was quite fair and nobody had any cause to grumble about the change. Personally I had planned to remain here after the earnings ceased, but sadly that did not last very long. Within a matter of weeks many members who had been here for 6 or 7 years began to migrate elsewhere, mainly to Bubblews. As the site became quiet for me I ended up following suit and moving on. I wonder how many would actually remain if the earnings ceased again at some point in the future?

This is likely to be a controlling factor for many, but the problem is that a lot of those friends may well disappear.

I left when they stopped paying last time. However it was due to how they made the change - no announcemnet at all and in my opinion a total lask of respect for the Lotters who had been so faithful all those years. I too moved to Bubblews but was never 'at home' there. Iam not here only for the money. I have fun with the maby friends that I have made over the years here and the earnings are a welcome bonus. If they stopped paying again I don't know whether I would stay or not. I would have to face that if it was to happen. It would depend on many factors (one of them being like last time) but it would probably inspire me to open up something else. Not a paid site but a chat room somewhere so that we could all keep in touch.

I seem to remember the site admin being quite fair and giving advance notice at the time. They paid anyone who had $5 or over. Personally I had about $3, but accepted the loss since they had been realistic enough to p[ay many members.

@Asylum Yes they told us that they would pay everyone who had that amount and I too had only $3 but it was the speed with which they told us and changed things. No forwarning at all. I think we deserved to know more than we were told which was absolutely nothing at all

I never left, but I was not very active after myLot stopped its earning program : quite all old members were no more here, and myLot was invaded by spammers. We were only a handful of old members. I joined Bubblews to stay in contact with friends, but never really liked B. I believe that if it would happen again I would continue to stay here. My activity would depend of who is still active.

@Asylum I would get e mail notifications and would look at them but the site just depressed me and I had no interest in visiting. I was about a year behind all the others going to Bubblews, but that was because in addition to myLot, Gather went down the tubes. I had to follow friends.

The earnings are so small that this alone would not keep me here. I enjoy the interaction with different people from all over the world.

The realistic level of earnings is a valid point, whereas Bubblews paid outrageously and unsustainable amounts that many members came to rely upon.

@Asylum Bubblews had a very bad management style. They should have hired someone competent, they might still be in business. I was making $50.00 every 3 days, it was insane!

I have connections here that I had on other sites, and I value their friendship. I miss them when I cant interact with them. The few pennies I make while doing so is just a perk.

This is where it becomes a moot point because those friends may leave if the site ever cancels the earnings, thus removing both benefits..

@Asylum That is very true. The reason I left the other site was because all my friends left because there was no earnings.....and so on it goes.

I am enjoying the interactions with people that I wouldn't have had the opportunity to do so on other sites. When MyLot stopped the earnings many years ago, it grew rather quiet in here. My time here was limited. Eventually I stopped completely. GardenGerty told me that they were active again and I took the time to check it out. I found quite a few of my old friends here. I have made many more friendships as a result of returning. Guess I'll stick around.

I would imagine that most people feel that way after being here for a short time, but it does not necessarily imply that they would remain if the earnings ceased.

No definitely not. I had stayed even posting now and again when the site had stopped paying. I missed everyone so much my friend. Well happily everyone, well lots old and new came back. I do feel sad when anyone only talks about earnings here, though it is nice, it is sort of false you know? I dunno.

That is usually the sad result of such instances. As many members leave it becomes quieter, thus persuading more to leave and making it quieter still and so on.

@Jessicalynnt Bubblews cut their own throat from the onset by offering such an unrealistic earnings level, which was clearly not sustainable. This was maintained for quite a while so members began to expect it. From that point the admin must have known that they had no real way out, but kept on promising abstract future events that they hoped would appease members.

@Asylum I was more mad that they lied, rather than the funding getting cut. And it wasn't the future cuts that bothered me, it was that I had submitted a payout, and it was cut in half (not from bots from the first slashing) with NO warning. and never any real explination

It all depends on who's still here. There are people I haven't seen since Bubblews that I would really like to know how they're doing. I'm glad so many people I've friended and become as it seems part of their lives are here and I can keep track of their whereabouts and give support whenever necessary. I'm praying right now for safe travels for @DianneN who is on her way home to Connecticut I believe, unless that was another member that lives there. I get confused to everyone's exact place of residence when they migrate winter and spring for warmer climbs. Still, I like to know they are safe.

This is where the unknown factor kicks in because we will not know unless it happens whether those friends will still be here. It was the disappearance of 90% of my friends that drove me from Mylot the last time that earnings ceased, despite me having planned to stay.

look all the peop;le who come here are not earning huge sums, a lot of people before had to go where they cou ld make a little money as every little bit helps when you areelderly and paying social sec urity and ssi to a retirement center then only having f or free money a sum like 117 for the whole month to pay for any bills you might have. in order to use our computer and the internet here we have to have cable internet and it has to be paid each month so yes for some of us @Asulum we do need that money but we are also here because we h ave r eal friends here who do not berate us for needing money and for being old too.No money is not my only interst here never was b ut it is one of two my fri ends and my lot and making a little money too.We can h ave even three reasons to be here.

I expect that many members have several reasons for using Mylot, myself included. We both know several other members here whose financial situation is difficult, in which case they have little choice but to make what they can. To be fair t does not apply to many members here, most of whom have different reasons for being here.

Very few people are here who are not for money but most of them are. I know if mylot again stops paying most of the users will stop posting. I am not here just for money. Money only motivates me to interact otherwise the person who has regular offline job won't spend time here for few cents.

I imagine the site would see many active members leave to try the waters elsewhere if the earnings were to cease. Without the earnings, meager though they may be, there really isn't anything to differentiate this site from other social/discussion sites. I know some of us tried to keep going at PP when it recently stopped paying, but that was different than what happened here before, I think. We knew at PP that eventually the lights will be turned out, the door locked, and that will be the end. myLot continued as a social/discussion site, but with no incentive to make it any more attractive than others like it. I imagine some of those who stuck it out here through the years without the earnings incentive could tell us what it was like then compared to now. I do remember reading posts at the B and PP when this site did start paying again saying the writer was leaving the B or PP to return here because the site was paying again. With luck, we won't have to find out what will happen if the site should cease payments.

@CoralLevang I opened an account many years ago, but stopped it after about 2 weeks. I reopened it about a year ago to keep in touch with a few friends and family who live abroad or distant from me, but limit it to about 10 friends.
