This is not a place for Status Updates

I sat here for a few minutes trying to find the best way to convey what I mean here. A lot of ways to describe it has flown through my head but I suppose the best way is this :
It is encouraged to discuss things, anything really, provided it doesn't go against the guidelines here. Friendly interactions are encouraged and continued conversations are not only a way to earn here but a way to make friends and get great advice / opinions.
I prefer discussions where I can share opinions, get advice, and have fun / learn something new about an individual I interact with here. I think a lot of us prefer these types of discussions.
Here lately I feel as if these interactions have been lacking. Sometimes it's the fault of the discussion itself, perhaps the wording is off, perhaps it's too straight forward and nothing more can be said / shared. I've made plenty of these discussions myself but I try to stray away from them.
I also stray away from repeated topics, but that's another discussion altogether. We've all banged our head against the wall about the repeated subjects. I know we all have our own opinions on that one as well.
Back to the original reason for this discussion though... Don't make a discussion that will ONLY generate "likes." We aren't here for just a status update, but for advice, opinions, disagreements, conversation. You CAN convey a lot in just one line but why use just one line?
I don't know, I have just seen a lot of discussions (and I've made a few of my own) that only allow for so much to be said. It's information based but without the welcoming feeling of interaction.
I hope this all makes sense. It's not the first time I've been told that what I am conveying isn't being understood.
How do you feel on this subject?
AND
What type of discussions do you like to write? read?

Yes a discussion that is going to open us up to new experiences, new ideas, and new thoughts and feelings on things. Here lately I've not seen a lot of those on mylot. Perhaps it's the time of day that I am on, I am not sure.
I like to be able to banter back and forth as well.

Respond AND continue a conversation, make friends, learn about the cultures etc.

Aside from those who never respond to anything on their own discussions, I think that some people, for whatever reason, fail to invite interaction even when they do technically comment back. I think some tell themselves "that'll do" just as long as they haven't offered the dreaded "thank you for your response" and left it at that; some don't use any punctuation other than full stops and commas, which can make a comment fall flat as little to no tone is carried with it. I'm not having a go at anyone or any style of writing, I don't want to sound mean, and I may have just realised I've possibly answered a question you never asked in the first place :') I've been doing that a lot recently.. The End!

You may have answered a question I've never asked, that's true. However, It's probably more so that I hadn't thought to ask than it is a burden that you've answered it!
Alongside those people who only comment (to their responders) the bear minimum, who just make a flat comment? There are those who comment to a discussion only answering the title question, or a question written in the discussion itself. This irks me as I wonder have they read the discussion at all!
Those who leave a flat comment, that doesn't invite any correspondence at all? Makes me wonder why they are here to begin with!

I agree with you. We are not here like on other social media sites just to get likes. The reason we are here is to interact more and more with people from all over the world

Yes, but sadly not everyone sees mylot like that. I've seen some more seasoned members here post as if this is a social media site. Not caring who responds or even bothering to respond back. Which is sad.

@ScribbledAdNauseum It IS a social media site, but not the typical one based on likes and no other interaction via comments like other social media platforms. It is a different kind of site. People are (or should be) much more likely to comment here than on other social media platforms where they just like or just view something.

Even subjects that are mundane can be given life! I know that there are some topics that don't invite much to discuss, but there are so many more that people can add to. Yet they don't and I am not sure why. It drives me batty sometimes.
Then there are topics that are repeated so many times! "I've been paid" is one of the most frustrating for me to see pop up.

@LadyDuck Yes, I agree. Telling people that they've been paid should be left to facebook. We all know that the site pays!

@ScribbledAdNauseum "I have been paid" is also a frustrating topic and leave no space to a discussion.

I can understand that and I don't always have a great discussion topic idea either. I've had "lulls" in activity because of it, atleast in the past.
Now I try to interact with people I haven't before, atleast when I've nothing else to say.

Sometimes I wish there was a filter in place to stop some of these repeats. Like the million discussions on the newest early payout. I made one when it first happened as I Was online but I saw three others had done so as well so deleted mine.
It doesn't add to the community if it's the same thing over and over again, you know? Variety is the spice of life.

I've never been a fan of the one line post. I am aware that some times one line can start a great discussion, but I like to think that a little more effort is required.
I also tend to shy away from long, wordy posts, ones that sound like a lecture.
Some days there are many discussions that I can get involved in, other days everything seems flat and uninteresting.

I usually read the one liners but don't respond unless I think I can add to it or elaborate. Even so it's only to those who I know will actually discuss and not just leave my comment to the way side.
I also tend to go away from long worded posts but I do read a little bit of them just to see if they will flow nicely / it catches my interest. I try to keep my longer posts as entertaining as possible, but I also try to keep them as short as possible as well.

Neutral. I can choose to ignore their discussions anyway.
No particular type. Often, I'm lazy when it comes to constructing a topic for discussion. Any topic I could think of at the last minute, I'll write it (that is if I could think of one).

I don't particularly construct discussions, it's usually what comes to mind or what I have researched. I try to write it in a way to open up more discussion on it though. SOmething that can be built upon.
