I went to the city centre library in Manchester to get print outs of the online ticket purchased for a burlesque cabaret I was attending in the evening and the script for a comedy show I’m appearing in myself on Monday. From there I called in a favourite bar for an hour to kill time and then went round to Charlie’s Bar for the burlesque show. This was the final of a competition to introduce new performers to the scene, after heats have taken place at many shows organized by event organizer / dance teacher Bella Besame. This was no X-Factor style competition, as the performers are all well- loved and rising stars of the future. Judging was done by a combination of audience votes and a judging panel of established professionals who faced a genuinely tough challenge throughout, held together by Duke Wayward’s hilarious compering. Final results for two of the three finalists matched my own voting preferences, and it was a very impressive, beautifully run competition throughout. The winners in a completion that genuinely had no losers were The Saucy Pear Cabaret, Kinky Krayola and Coco Nobel Many friends in the audience are aware of my mum’s critical illness from my postings and asked how she is, which was very touching. She is comfortable and relaxed at present. Her health can’t improve but at present there are no signs of further deterioration. Thanks to everyone for kind words and a wonderful show. Arthur Chappell

@Ronrybs not been on karaoke nights - not an entertainment I like too much - good venue for other shows though

Hopefully your mum will remain "comfortable and relaxed" as long as possible.
