Fairy Garden or Mini Garden

I've seen several people posting pictures of their fairy gardens and I think they're cute. It's gotten me interested in making one myself, or with my kids (maybe one by myself and have them make one too). I started looking at ideas on Pinterest and saw one article about fairy gardens and mini gardens. The only difference between the two was the mini garden doesn't have the fairy items in it. The plants are the same, so now I'm not sure which one to make. Since I have limited funds for this most, if not all, of the decorations would have to be made with things I already have so I'm limited on what I can decorate it with. If I go the mini garden, I only have to get the plants. I think my kids would enjoy the fairy garden better than a mini garden, but they'd probably like both. I'm planning on starting with just one to see how I like it and if my cat's will leave it alone. Allie is usually pretty good about leaving most plants alone, but Captain isn't. He likes to get into everything. Hopefully I can find a place to put it where he won't ruin it. Have you made a fairy or mini garden before?

Good luck with your garden. I hope your cat doesn't try to use the garden as a litter tray.

Thankfully that isn't usually a problem with my cats, the problem we have is they sometimes like to eat the plants. So far I've had one of the plants pulled out but it's been left alone since. It must not have tasted very good.

I like the one I made but it's not nearly as decorated as some I've seen pictured online.

I haven't heard of a fairy or min garden before but it sounds delightful. What all is involved?

Basically you take a container and plant small plants in it, either ones that stay small or can be trimmed to keep them small. For a fairy garden you decorate it with little items to make it look like a fairy could live there.

@fawkes62 What a lovely idea! I like that and will have to try it on our balcony as soon as it warms up enough.

From what I've seen people have put these both inside and out. The one I made is for inside, but I wouldn't mind having one outside too if I could keep the rabbits out of it.

I'm not sure what a fairy garden is but I'm going to find out. It sounds like something I would like. I know your kids would love it.

I've made one so far and the kids like how it looks so we may make another one or two once more stores have plants available. This one is made with succulents but I still had to go to a garden center to find them. Hopefully the other plants I would want will be available at any store that sells plants once they start getting them in.

I've done mini gardens in the past and started a fairy garden last year! Did you ever work on this project?
