How MyLot helped me make $50.39 on April 1

I tried to come up with a catchy title because I'll be gone pretty much all day tomorrow. On "that other site" (the site that will not be named), I used to do posts like this. It would turn out that $50.00 was made from playing a music gig, and $00.04 was made on the site. I was poking fun at what that site paid. Here, even when I'm not around, the amount I make isn't that bad. I appreciate that. But I decided to do such a post anyway. I was inspired by my right index and middle fingers. Both hurt like hell right now. I'm using single malt Scotch as an anesthetic. My country band played a gig on Friday night. I usually play mandolin with that band, but our bass player couldn't make it, so we played as a trio, with me on bass. The gig went well, and I came home with $50 in my pocket and four glasses of a really nice Merlot in my tummy. Today, I practiced with a different band. In that band, I play bass. The bottom line: I'm hoping these blisters will turn into callouses. Is there something you do that tweaks your body? I practice guitar and mandolin at home, and have the appropriate callouses (on my left hand). But I only play bass when I'm gigging (I practice bass runs on my guitar), and therefore don't have good callouses on my right hand. Ouch.

Malt Scotch is a great anesthetic, it was not strong enough when I burned my hand three weeks ago. I hope your blisters will turn to callouses, my blisters have burst and now my hand is peeling... not so nice to look at for the moment.

@TheHorse I hope too, it's taking longer than I thought and I hate this.

@LadyDuck I'm sending healthy thoughts your way. I played bass again tonight at an Open Mic I help host. My fingers feel OK right now.

I think my blisters will turn to callouses. Sometimes there's callused skin UNDER the blister. I hope you're healing on schedule.

Sorry, pony, I have no clue what you are talking about.... While trying to figure it out I happened to enlarge this photo and I noticed something that DID interest me there! Is that really the cell phone you still carry around with you? That looks like the first Nokia cell phone I bought my daughter when she was 11 years old! PLEASE tell me you haven't used that phone for fifteen years! LOL! Yes, I still have my daughter's first phone in a drawer in my bedroom... Yes, it still has time on it and yes, it still works... That doesn't mean anyone should still use an antique like that, though!

Seriously @DaddyEvil ? All you took from everything in that post was that he needed a new phone? Actually, that is really observant. @TheHorse gave me a headache with the thought of scotch, a pain in my fingers because of his hand and a stab of jealousy that he makes 39 cents when he is not here. HAHAHA As far as the phone if it rings and he picks it up, the girls should be happy. I mean callers.

So you still do first drafts by hand? I write poems on napkins,or whatever is available. But short stories are mostly written on computer.

Lifting 70-lb bales of hay and 50-lb bags of sweet feed and oats will do it to me every time @TheHorse .

Give you callouses? I'd get muscle aches! Actually I used to stack hay. But our 70 lb bales really weighed more like 55 lbs.

@TheHorse Whether the bales are 55 or 70; with either cord or wire wrapping, it's a booger with my spine.

I know our bass-playing son won't wash up as the hot water wrecks his callouses. That's his story anyway!

I can't play any instrument, so I have no calluses. Wish I could play, I'd definitely welcome them.

39 cents is ok. That will ensure 10 dollars if they revert to that payout I have not worked my hands that roughly to develop callouses

Ouch is right. My fingers ache when I don't play guitar for awhile until the callouses re-form. I can only imagine that playing bass (especially stand-up) is so much harder on both hands because the strings are so much bigger; and, unlike other instruments (guitar, mandolin, banjo), most people don't play bass with a pick (and, of course, with a stand-up bass there's no way to use a pick!). Hope your fingers get better soon.

I would never picture you as a country music person/player..and the mandolin of all things. did you ever hear of Mitch Corbin - a very good mandolin player (and he makes them too).

@TheHorse No that's not it, you don't seem 'country-ish' more city slicker type! Anyway Mitch is/was a biggie in blue grass - he bought our home in Sevierivlle, TN when he moved there to work at the Dixie Stampede. Of course I had never heard of him since I'm not into blue grass.

I don't think I know Mitch Corbin. How come you wouldn't picture me as a Country guy? Because I'm a teacher? A lot of teacher types like bluegrass music. It's kind of rock 'n roll for aging hipsters.

@TheHorse gloves didn't seem to matter much 'til i built up some calluses, lol. those roundies jest kick my backside. i've not the equipment to move'em 'round, so found the need to get creative with 'em.

I wore gloves when I built hay stacks in Montana. I can't remember if it hurt my hands or not. Damn roundies. They may me feel like a part of the old West.

When i was starting with the.guitar, the finger tips on my left hand had those callouses. The middle.one is always this tough callouse that sometime i use the nail cutter, to cut some. And it.is nice.to.know.that you are in a band.too, aside.from here.and those.woodworks :)

Sometimes those callouses catch on a string. One of our guitarists and I were discussing care and maintenance today. He uses 1600 grit sandpaper on his nails and callouses.

I had a teenage moment and climbed up onto the roof of the carport the other day to fetch a "rocket" my 7-year-old neighbor buddy had shot up there. Maybe I'll do a post about it. I surprised myself. Like you, I try not to do unfamiliar things too abruptly.

@TheHorse Men who climb on roofs often end up in the E.R. My brother-in-law did, and broke his leg. He was pretty lucky. At the same time another man was there for the same thing, but he landed on his head.
