Winston's Tube Station

Winston Churchill planned the early stages of WWII, from an old Tube station, Down St, before moving into a purpose built HQ in north London.
Sitting between Hype Park Corner and Green Park (then called Dover St) stations, Down St was so lightly used that trains frequently didn't stop and it was closed in 1932.
Further east along the line is Aldwych, a short branch line off Holborn. Again through lack of use and a need for expensive lift repairs, this station closed in 1994, having been opened the same year as Down St, 1907.
As you might expect, both stations follow the same design, although Down St now has a shop built into it.
The horror film 'Creep' is set in Down St station, but was filmed at Aldwych, which has also appeared in films and TV shows standing in the whole Underground.

There must be a maze of closed underground routes in London.

Maybe they just want to maintain the heritage look, since the city is modernizing at a crazy rate, they thought maybe hold on to this look,or maybe the government is broke and wants to spend where there will be better returns. Honestly I don't know what I am saying. please ignore.

Was Churchill bunkered in, or was it just a safe location?
