a little bit of exercise

April 4, 2016 11:18am CST
I have just managed to burn an impressive one thousand calories. Yes, I'm telling you a little fib. *sigh* However, I do feel as though I've just run a marathon, or lifted some very heavy weights, or forced my legs through quicksand. Or all three of those, all at the same time. I have changed the bed. Some sheets billow with freshness, drying on the washing line outside. Other sheets have been lovingly caressed onto the bed by my fair hands. And the duvet cover? Well, I manhandled that on to the duvet with all the finesse of an elephant dancing on his tippy-toes. I grunted, I puffed, I swore. I thought about giving in, cosying up inside the mess that it was and just sobbing my little heart out. But I didn't. I was brave and strong, a real warrior. Xena. The bed is made. The sheets for sleepyheads tonight are fresh and clean. My exercise for the day is done. Knowing that this is a regular exercise activity of mine, one would be forgiven for wondering why I'm not a svelte wee thing with an A4 waist.

Have you ever thought about the word 'to manhandle'? How can a *woman* do that? From now on you should *womanhandle* the duvet cover.

That's true; I scrubbed the windows and hoovered the floors today too, so maybe I shall sleep well tonight. :)

True, and add gardening to this and there, one is really moving.

@marlina Oh, yes. If the weather stays okayish, I shall do a bit of gardening tomorrow. I shall be aching in places I'd forgotten I could ache!

I like changing the bed sheets but mopping the floor seems like a real exercise for my abs! I understand the feeling!

@Poppylicious Sorry for the typo! My least favorite houseworks are mopping and ironing. I forgot to mention that I usually ask for help when it's time for the sheets and duvet cover! It's easier and faster with one person on each side of the bed to adjust the covers!

@besweet I do often have help, but today I was unavoidably on my lonesome. :(

I would rather mop the floor. And I rarely mop the floor!

Walking around your house is exercising. You burn calories every time you take a step.

@PapaBits Definitely, but I only have to glance in the direction of food and I gain calories!

It's a great feeling accomplishing something you dread. My favorite workouts are ones where you don't realize you are getting one! Housework is tedious but it can keep you in shape if you keep moving.

If you can think it, you are 'a svelte wee thing with an A4 waist.' so am I. (ahem)

Generally when I change sheets I find cats that were off on a mission somewhere else suddenly HAVE to be on the bed.

Well there you go. Who needs the gym when you can work out at home... by doing chores?
