It Takes A Village......Preferably One Like Mayberry

Have you paid attention lately to the television shows available for kids? There is no such thing as a 'moral to the story' anymore. You know what I mean, a life lesson like the ones Opie Taylor learned as he grew up with his Pa and Aunt Bea in Mayberry.
Sarcasm and making fun of each other, parents, teachers and anyone in authority seems to be popular. No longer do kids get any kind of a sense of what's acceptable behavior from their favorite characters. Anything goes, as long as it's funny. Think about the home lives of many of the kids growing up today. Many of them have parents who are so busy that they barely touch base with them each day. Coming home to an empty house after school has become the norm as it has become harder to make ends meet.
Wouldn't it be nice if they could get a little encouragement to be kind, honest and responsible human beings from the entertainment that they turn to? Comparing the TV shows of today to the ones of yesteryear is kind of like comparing fast food to a home cooked meal. The result of a shift back to old fashioned lessons and values being intertwined into their shows might just have a positive impact on the generation growing up in the current electronic 'village'. What do you think?

My little grandson watches Peppa the Pig and I think they really do encourage good values.

My children are all grown up, but we never had TV in our home. They did get to watch it a bit at their grandmother's house, shows like Little House on the Prairie. I don't have TV service now, so have not watched any children's programs lately, but I am sure they fall far short of the ones that were on years ago.

This is why it's hard to discipline kids these days because of the things they watch on tv or the internet.

@WilmaHenry54 , I agree, the tv shows that kids today watch growing up, are awful! I saw a cartoon that a friend of mines daughter was watching and I couldn't believe the characters in it. I wish they would bring some old shows back for todays generation.

There are some children's shows that teach them good values but only few nowadays.

indeed, some of the children's shows on TV today do not give moral lessons so it is up to the parents to guide their kids as well. there is a great difference between the TV shows before and today.

That is a good point. I do like the way they tell the stories in a bit more realistic way to how society actually works, but there does not seem to be many with life lessons. More like people just react to situations. For example, someone does someone wrong and then that person does something 10 times worse to the person that did them wrong. Then it just keeps going and going without anyone learning a thing.

I agree with you. Many of the shows that I watched as a child taught me right from wrong and many of today's shows only teach wrong.
