See but not seeing

I think many of us have developed a talent of seeing but not seeing.
When I was in the crowded shopping mall the other day, I could see a coin on the ground.
I was too far to pick it up.
There were so many people walking over the coin, and nobody even saw the coin.
I just wished that I could push through the mass of human bodies to pick the coin up.
Sometimes when I walk in the street, I happen to see some familiar faces, but they are not looking at anyone in particular.
They do not see the people around them.
I really do not know what they are looking at since they do not see the money on the ground, and they do not see the people walking next to them.

I guess if you aren't looking, you wouldn't see it. Maybe they were simply lost in their thoughts!

@scheng1 Scary thought! I hope that people become more aware of their surroundings!

@Hate2Iron We know that it is not going to happen.
When we are in the supermarket, we probably do not even "see" the person in front of us at the cashier.
We probably do not remember how the cashier looks like once we leave the supermarket.

A lot of people are not actually living in the present. They are always focused on something else. They miss out so much.

All I can say is that everyone has their own choice here. You may assume that they are not seeing things when they are in fact seeing something else or have a mind on somewhere else.
Like the coin, people may not see the point of taking the trouble of picking it up for known personal reasons. Or another part of them would be having a mind of their own where they will want to see what they want to see hence ignoring the subject in front of them at that time.

I believe we all have ourselves to blame at the end of the day when we are unable to express ourselves to our partners, friends or relations when we do not make an effort to be conversant in conversation.
Scary even since we are ever so reliant on emoji or emoticons that I could see quite a majority that have forgotten how to cry, laugh or express some basic emotions within them.

@artemeis yes, that is true.
The children today will grow up to become more a robot than a human.
Once they grow up in this environment where people face the phones and computers more than other humans, they will become lonely and depressed and not able to communicate face to face with another humans.

Most of us have a filter that lets us see some things, but not all of them.

My mother in law teases me because I will go out of my way to pick a coin off the ground. Even a penny.
But you are right, so many people are not really aware of what is going on around them. They are either internal, or absorbed in an electronic device instead.
I am trying to practice more mindful behavior and being more aware of what is around me but it can be hard.
