The Dessert had my Name on it

We spent a week with friends recently on holiday and visited several places with them. We went to a winery near Denmark, Western Australia and tasted some of their wines. Attached to the winery is the Salt and Pepper restaurant where we had lunch. I always read the dessert menu first as this determines whether I'll order an entrée or mains. I'm not a big eater and sometimes even having an entrée will leave me without enough room for dessert. I like lighter desserts – something with cream maybe or ice-cream but not stodge. I'm not into stodge. In this case the pannacotta with lemon chilli ice-cream, rhubarb something or other and other bits that I can't remember had my name on it so I just had an entrée then the pannacotta. Doesn't it look great?

I love the pannacotta, I made it last Sunday for my husband, it did not come out perfect from the mold, but it was good anyway.

Someone asked if pannacotta is Danish? I would have thought it was Italian and I said that 'Anna would know'. So is it an Italian dish? I think yours looks lovely too. I'm sure you enjoyed it.

It looks...well-presented. But my taste buds didn't really get a sense of what it's like. I would like a very small mousse and coffee.

What is wrong with a not-so-small mousse and coffee? :)

With the sound of it the dessert also had your stomach around it before long. Is this a Danish recipe?

@JudyEv Sorry if I misled you, it was just my silly comment which I could not resist since you ate it near Demark.

I've no idea where pannacotta originated. I would have guessed Italy. We need Anna to tell us. :) It's a bit like egg custard I guess but nicer.

I t does look great and that's my kind of dessert too- Now what is stodge? And when you say entree do you mean just an appetizer?

Yes, mostly the terms are interchangeable although here sometimes you might have tiny appetisers with drinks then entree then mains.

There wasn't much chilli in the taste. Maybe the chilli was in one of the other 'bits'.

It does look great! I wish I could eat the photo! I look at the dessert menu first and insist on ordering the dessert and having it served first. Like you, I'm no big eater. I'm big on dessert though!

I would be brave enough to insist on having dessert first but I always check the menu to see what is on offer.

I have to go really easy on my first course if I want to have dessert. That's why I read the dessert menu first to decide if it's worth going light on the mains.

@Jessicalynnt Imagine serving one up - or four up - for a dinner party at home - a dab of this, a bit of that, then a bit of fennel - I couldn't be bothered. :)

They go to so much effort with dobs here and there. I couldn't be bothered but it does make it tempting.

@Marilynda1225 I wouldn't have called it a flan which I thought usually involved pastry. Maybe mousse?

That would be great to see people relishing them too ! Was the dessert called Judy? I look at desserts too and make sure I have room for them when they are really tempting. Some have become too health conscious to an extent to starve themselves silly. They can be real pain when enjoying good food - siva

I totally agree. I try to watch what I eat at home but when I go out, it is NO HOLDS BARRED! But I can only eat so much so I might have entree and dessert - or even just dessert if I think I can get away with it. Sometimes the people we are with might be horrified if I have just dessert so it varies. I think this was called pannacotta which is sort of an egg custard.

@JudyEv Thanks. I was confused as you had mentioned the dessert had your name on it! I recall the innocent days of yore when people just went hammer and tongs after anything they relished; but caution is the byword now that leave our taste buds starving and listless! I recall too some regional meals in India had desserts all over! siva
