What is your Primary Aim in Life?

We have targets hoping that it will lead us to happiness and a comfortable life. Then day-to-day vicissitudes do not matter though we have to face them stoically as they can derail our goal in life. When our intentions and goals are clear the rest should fall in place. We get distracted but when we have a clear goal we should just enjoy the journey.
What has been my aim in life and has it changed over time? My initial take was for stability, to earn a living, and support my family. Thankfully, they have been met; then to have a healthy life which I have managed despite the sedentary nature of my work. I was lucky to travel and work in few countries and imbibe their culture that broadened my vision about world in general.
I had always wanted to communicate and internet came out of the blue though a bit late in my life but “better late than never”. I enjoy my online time and MyLot has proved a blessing. Was always comfortable in few sites I was active in over the years but MyLot fits like a glove with my outlook.
I have no regrets, met many lovely and kind souls, and also encountered the few who made me wonder why they had to behave the way they did. Though forgiven but remembered for the lessons learned. How about you? What has been your aim and are you on target?

My aim is to make everyone happy. Help them to help themselves is my favourite quote.

Currently, my aim is to have my own business. To be stable and to be able to do things that I love to do. Travelling is on top of my list. There are a lot of ups and downs lately that I'm trying to cope up in order to succeed. I'm praying that I could handle my emotions in order for me to have a stable business.

To be own boss and to work for ourselves is the best way though there are some pitfalls like unsteady income.
One has to have the right temperament too to succeed as our attitude decides our altitude when it comes to the vagaries of life and business. I wish you luck - siva

As far as physical aspects of life, yes I would say I have nearly met my goal, late in life though it is.
Spiritually however, I am not even close to meeting my goal and in the process of trying, it is nearly destroying me.
Thats it in a nutshell Siva, for if one is not right spiritually, no matter what one has, does not matter in life.

Material possessions are transient - what belongs to us can slip away before we think they can. They attract the wrong attention even. Spiritual development endures and refines over time and gives inner peace.
I am happy that you are on the right path - siva

My life has been a hodgepodge of near misses, being on target, and complete misses.
As a child my goal was to have a comfortable life, a good paying job and a family I could be proud of. I definitely missed on that one. At least two out of three. I have a family I'm proud of for the most part. I have one child who is hard to handle.
Another goal I had was to be a best selling author. I'm on my way with that target. At least I'm an author.
I could wish my life was the nice cozy one I dreamed of as a child, but dreams are not formed in reality a lot of the time.
Right now my aim is to remain in my house and not need to move, but that isn't up to me, but the bank as it's in foreclosure. If that works out, I will be happy.

Oh, that is sort of a roller coaster ride Valerie. I am happy what is within your hands you are on target to pursue and achieve. I wish you luck.
I have had not a smooth ride but I tempered my aspirations for balance in life. I wanted to have some time for myself to read and write though I am more into the latter with MyLot taking most of the time.
I have a comfortable abode and I am happy with that. I have discharged my responsibility as a father and live a simple life with my wife and trying to help others within my limits. I always look at the overall picture and find I should not be complaining at all but just feel blessed - siva

i have been blessed with more than what I had bargained for. Having said that there is no end to one's wants. Is there? I did have a few wants but I have become wiser in my ways over the years and have learnt the art of being forever in the attitude of gratitude.

Good take. I do my duty - and what it is we know by intuition more than by other means and when in doubt treat others as I would like to be treated - and not be elated/disappointed with the results.
Whatever I get in return I take them as bonus. That has stood me in good stead and to stay focused than get influenced by others' whims and fancies - siva

Thanks, we can meet our needs through our sincere efforts and attitude, but we should take care to limit them as greed gets added to them!
I too have nothing to complain as real fulfillment is in giving from our heart than in expecting from others - siva

HI Sivaramakrishnan. I guess that we are all looking to be and do things that make us happy, give us purpose, and help us find out who we are. Well, I have had quite a few targets, and found I was missing the mark sometimes. I would think that in the beginning education and relationship goals are targets; they were for me. Financial success is something we all look to have as soon as we believe to know what it may mean. Thereby, being a goal while we are in school and eventually as we join the working world. Then you have to find yourself. Know what you are doing and why you are doing it. At this point in time, I want to realize my full potential. I say that all the time. But it means something different now. I want to uncover possible talents, learn more about things that interest me, accept the idea of becoming an old maid. Ha ha ha. But, I can always say that I am the luckiest woman in the world to know life.

So happy to relate to the "luckiest woman" in the world!
I agree goals can be shifting posts as we savor life in all its variety and in stages. Nowadays, I hear teenagers talking of working careers when the only one I had in mind at their age was a tiffin carrier!
I could not plan much; sure and steady was my approach. Got a good education, got married at the right time but no child for fourteen years and when I had one my life revolved around the precious one. I am not a scientist out to find solutions to improve life or to get carried away by the frills of lavish lifestyle. Happiness lies in being useful to others and I took care of that.
Now I am more into interaction, got into the right environment, and a pleasure to spend my time here. An open mind, never judgmental, agreeing others have a reason to behave the way they do (even if they have none!), and doing what is needed but not too bothered about results have helped me to stay the course of life as it takes me to wonderful moments to savor. I am grateful for the blessings - siva
