Natural sleep aids?

Hey all! Looking for any suggestions you have on natural sleep aids. I dont have a problem sleeping at my normal "bed time" (0930PM-1000PM) but starting next week I will be waking up at the ungodly hour of 0100AM for some overtime at work. I usually wake up at 0430 - but I figure on these days Ill have to be asleep by 6-7PM to get 6-7 hours of sleep which is optimal. Any recommendations for a natural sleep aid? One that is nonaddictive? I have heard good things about Melatonin but have not tried it. Any experiences with that? Any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance!

@carebear29 i realize it probably affects everyone differently. But. How long does he sleep soundly for? If he goes a night without it can he not sleep? Sorry fir the twenty questions. Lol. Im glad it sounds like it is working for your son.

I've never ingested a sleep aid, and I have trouble sleeping. For years now, the TV has always been my 'sleep aid'. I'd let it go on at night until I doze off. Good luck with the OT!

Thanks! I am the opposite way about the Tv thing. Does that work even if you have a bed time thats earlier than nornal? (By the way I feel like a toddler for saying bed time. Ha ha)

@maezee LoL! Toddler? Wouldn't that be more like a second childhood? Like the one we go through when we get old-er? Because you'll be sleeping way too early!

I once read that melatonin is caused to be produced if we get enough sunlight. So it is great that you mentioned the use of melatonin. From what I have read, then why not just make sure you get enough sunlight and that would help you sleep better.

Melatonin is good for occasional or temporary use. It comes in different dosages. I did not oversleep the alarm when I took it. I will take it occasionally now. Some of the brands have another additive that is also supposed to help. Calcium and Magnesium help you relax as well and cannot hurt you.

How about a glass of milk? It works for me. And watching boring TV shows.
