I wonder how many people here make a living writing online

When I first started writing online, there were many people who could make a living just by writing online.
They could make about $2,000 to $3,000 a month.
That was the time when many sites paid upfront to the writers.
The catch was that you could not republish the content elsewhere.
At one time, Demand Studio offered $15 upfront per article.
That was a time when Associated Content paid $10 upfront per article, and you could earn from page views as well.
That is why you can see many full time writers who manage to make a living writing online.
Now many sites do not pay upfront, and you hardly can earn $300 even if you write all the time.
I wonder how many people here make a living from online writing.

I used to write for a living too. Now, it's just not the same thing.

I do write but only legal documents (contracts, legal disclaimers, terms & conditions, privacy policy, and other legal correspondences).

I don't, because I am not a professional writer. I just joined mylot as my first writing site as it's more like a social networking site where we can write casually.
It seems like more and more writing sites have closed down, but I think there are still people paying for content writing, perhaps not on a site like Associated Content.

I wish I could make a living by writing online. It is a nice job to be a writer because the time will be much more flexible. And if you are a good writer, then paid will be well. The key is I am not qualified to be such a good writer yet. Perhaps I can write a cook book one day? At least this is something I am good at

At the moment I am writing for the fun of it and taking the opportunity here to have more friends outside of China.
I heard there are people who help write thesis or research papers for university students or academia before but I don't think this is one area I would like to go into.
I don't know how lucrative these writings can be but I think the lack of laws protecting property rights and honoring of contracts just discourages me from considering this over resigning from my job for this.

Yes, China is notorious for not adhering to copyright law.
I think it is the ignorance, and the way of traditional education.
The traditional education encourages students to memorize and quote from classic, but that is not encouraged in the west.
When we have to quote from somewhere, we have to give credit to the original writer or thinker.

I've never attempted to earn a living writing online so I don't know if it's possible or not. I do think, though, that it's getting harder and harder for those who attempt it.
