Can You Hear Me Now? Is the Smart Phone All That Smart?

I just got my first smart phone... (yeah, I'm a bit of a tightwad...LOL) and it brought back to my mind a problem I've noticed for a while now when trying to call people who only use smart phones. Namely this... it's really hard to communicate with people when you can't hear them properly. If it doesn't sound as though the other person is on Mars, it sounds as though he or she is just learning to speak in full sentences and you are missing half the words. I've never had any problems with cell phones of the non-smart variety, they seem to come in loud and clear although they might drop signals once in a while. So here's the question... Do you think smart phones lose some of their brains in audio quality while favoring internet surfing and what-not?

That's interesting. I'll have to look into that deeper for my next phone. Thank you for that review of the iPhone. :)

I haven't got a smartphone, so I've never tried one. I suppose I'll have to join the 21st century sometime. I just have a phone that makes calls and texts.

It took me forever to join the 21st century, but I'm getting there in my own time, I guess.

I work for a carrier company. If you are experiencing dropped calls I would think that it is the quality of service of your carrier. I think smart phones are quite reliable. You should call it in. Maybe your carrier can get it fixed for you.

Well, I've always experienced "dropped" calls... with every cell phone I've ever owned. I have yet to have my new smart phone drop a call except once when I talked to my husband and he entered a building where cell signals are screened out and we both expected the call to drop. What my new phone does is chop up the words, like this... Hi. --are you? --are--doing --day? That can get quite exasperating, especially when the chop covers half of everything out of the person's mouth and gets worse if he or she is using speaker phone. I don't really want to call this particular carrier if I can avoid it. The waiting on hold time averages around half an hour to 45 minutes... if you're lucky. ;)

We have had a smart phone for six months and no trouble with it at all.

Awesome! I think I'm starting to get used to my phone now, but my hubby is still fussing over his, and my dad totally has to avoid touching any apps at all, since he recently accidentally activated airplane mode and his phone wouldn't DO anything for the longest time. LOL. He is now not allowed to play with the phone's features. ;)

I donĀ“t have that problem. Maybe it is just a slow connection.
