Good morning. When I was much younger and trying to keep my weight stable. The rage at that time was Tab from Coca Cola diet soda. I drank a lot of this and liked it.Most of us did not know about the hidden sugar. We were trying to lose some weight. They have sweet and low, splenda This could lead to glucose intolerance ,risk of weight gain, type 2 diabetes. What they are saying that this is bad for you and does not help in losing weight. Do you still drink diet soda? photo image by public domaine

I do not drink sodas, not the normal soda and not even the diet soda. I prefer sparkling mineral water with a slice of lemon.

Sometimes, probably in small glass, or half of it. the temptation of drinking more is there but when you havge vegetable meal so many times, it's not much of a problem anymore.

I have never been a big fan of colas or sodas in general. I do remember my mother drinking Tab when I was a young child.

I still drink it shamefully. A few years ago I cut out all pop and with doing that and no extra exercise or anything I lost 10 pounds. Crazy. That just tells you perhaps diet anything works in the opposite way its marketed to.

Because they have a sweet taste but very few calories they make you crave the missing calories that the sweet taste tells your body you should have had. You are then more likely to consume more calories as a result.

@amadeo Probably the best thing. The acid in these fizzy drinks is no good for your teeth either. That even applies to sparkling water!!

I never liked diet soda with its tinny taste. If you are going to have a soda, go for all its sugary glory but in moderation. I only occasionally indulge as a treat.

The opinion presented here is not backed by credible science. Substantive, longstanding research demonstrates the efficacy of diet beverages as a beneficial calorie-cutting and weight loss tool and directly debunks the myth that these products trigger increased cravings for sweet foods and beverages: Moreover, leading health organizations condone the use of these products, due to their safety and use as a diet aid. It’s also highly misleading and untrue that this single source of calories causes complex health conditions. Bottom line: credible science establishes the safety and efficacy of diet soda, and these products can be enjoyed with confidence.

A lot of people just don't understand that diet sodas are even worse for us than regular sodas are. The chemicals and added in sugars that they add to it to make it diet are worse for us than the amount of sugar that is in a normal soda. They will start to notice that if they just stop drinking soda all together they will lose weight better and feel better about themselves.

I haven't drank diet soda in years, however Diet Dr. Pepper was my favorite. From a study I read many years ago, I learned that aspartame is derived from the fecal matter of a single-celled organism. To me that equals amoeba poop. No thank you. I believe Splenda is derived from real sugar, however I am not aware of any diet drinks that do not contain a form of aspartame.

I grew up only having regular soda on special occasions - or when we got pizza. So I never got into the soda habit - and diet soda never tasted good to me. Hubby's family grew up having sodas with their meals . . . and although he got out of the habit, one of his sisters did not - and she passed on the soda habit to her kids . . . all of them are overweight. One of the kids, now in her early 20s, drinks a lot of diet soda and always complains she has a hard time losing the weight.

My uncle drinks a lot of diet drinks. He has type 2 diabetes, but it wasn't caused by the drinks though. I agree diet drinks are bad. I don;t like drinking them if they have aspartame in them because it causes me to have headaches.
