Do you look forward to new books?

I am a bibliomaniac. Books are wonderful things, and for someone like me, an utter introvert, they are a godsend. Tomorrow, a book that I really have been wanting to read will drop into my Nook -- Julian Fellowes of Downton Abbey fame -- is writing a new novel in serial form, called Belgravia, with a new chapter every week. And of course, George R.R. Martin's next book in the Game of Thrones series. Like that isn't going to happen any time soon... So my question to you, my fellow MyLotters, do any of you out there have books or authors that you look forward to?

I was an avid readier during my youth, but my eyesight became quite poor during my late 30s, so I gradually get out of the habit. I cannot remember the last time that I actually read a book.

@Marty1 I have been using bifocals for some time and find them very good. Yes, I do have a few audio tapes that I picked up a long while ago, but never did get around to listening to.

@Marty1 Bifocals did not require getting used to by me because they seemed perfectly natural from day 1.

Aren't your eyes fixed up now? If not you can obviously see to write here so go digital...get a tablet and it's just like reading a book. If your eyes trouble you you can make the text bigger very easily.

I love books but have to say that sadly many modern authors are not upto the standard of past generations. There are of course exceptions. I am currently purchasing classics, as some I haven't read before.

I agree with you, Peter. Jane Austen and Elizabeth Gaskell ruined most nineteenth century fiction for me, as I just could not bear to read anyone else after that. I do like some Dickens, and especially Wilkie Collins.

@Marty1 Oh I do love Agatha Christie -- one of the first ones that I read was Ten Little Indians, and then it was Murder on the Orient Express. After that, I was hooked.

@enlightenedpsych2 I really dont have much time to read a book. I think the computer has taken over most of my time.

Yes, I always can't wait for new books from Ted Dekker and Richard Paul Evans, among others.

I also like Ted Dekker, Vicki @1creekgirl. I'm really behind, though. The last one I read was Forbidden.

Not been a real reader of books for long as my work and family life took much of my time. Wanted to read when I could take life easy but internet and online writing take most of my time now. I remember the many books I had read when I was young and before I got married - siva

@enlightenedpsych2 My pleasure Erica. I recall Arthur Conan Doyle who created the famous detective Sherlock Holmes. He kept me hooked to his thrillers. Then real life stories mostly about hunting man-eating tigers by Jim Corbett. And some comic books, short stories, in few languages apart from English. I used to read daily newspapers till the news became quite sickening! The headlines tell the same old stories, sort of depicting us as frogs in a well! siva

@enlightenedpsych2 What an assortment of old and new. I have always regretted not reading books for years. Books stimulate us and one is really blessed to be able to read them. My father was a prolific reader and was very proficient in the English language despite being a professor in Microbiology. . It is time I started to read as it could otherwise end up as never! I should prioritize - siva

A lot of my favorite authors haven't written anything new in centuries. Haha. But for contemporary reads, I like Jamie Langston Turner (religious fiction) and Victoria Thompson (historical mysteries).

I am always in the know when new books are coming out but I don't get them, I just try and win them. There are too many authors who have published new books since I first stumbled upon them. I couldn't possibly keep up.

@Telynor me too - I have to be very careful there - often the postage costs are more than the value of the goods so it can add up a lot

@arthurchappell I have the same problem. Several authors that I love get published first in England, and so I have to pay the extra postage to the US, which can be ruinous. Not to mention trying to get decent tea or chocolate here...

I'm currently reading the Harry Potter series and am on The Half-Blood Prince. I hope I can be done with book 7 by July when the next book in the Harry Potter series comes out - a prequel this time. Other than that, I'm just working on my own novels and hoping to get them ready for publication soon.

@enlightenedpsych2 I already have about 100 print books in the house I have not read, not counting the stuff I have on my kindle. I read at least one short story a day as best I can and review it plus spend time on one print book. I've already been working my down for a couple of years. But then something tempts me—

I love books! Just owning a hard copy and smelling a new book is so exciting, weird I know. I am actually trying to get my hands on a set of encyclopedias. I used to have a really nice set but they all got damaged in my moms wet basement

Always make time for books. Even fifteen minutes a day adds up over time. Reading for me is the way that I stay sane -- it's like breathing to me.

I mainly look forward to anything from Stephen King. But I have seen a few books that seem to interest me. I have yet to get them. I am not an avid reader, although I like to read. There is another book my girlfriend told me about but I am not sure of the name. I will find that out and get the book and read it. I like books that will keep my interest. Otherwise I don't bother.

I read quite a bit of King some years ago, but the one that I have really enjoyed 11/23/63. It was good to read a book of his that wasn't a monster novel.

I read on kindle all the classics. I have a few books now -- chess books, Alice in Wonderland, Sherlock Holmes and the type. I aim to collect some more Indian authors. Reading is a blessed relief, I think.
