Mental illness in my family

My niece is going through a lot right now with her daughter. She's 17, very intelligent, member of the Honor Society and has just lost her mind. A few weeks ago, she cursed and attacked my niece in.front of one of her classmates. Needless, to say, the classmate left immediately. When her grandfather came over to help, she hit him! Last night my niece called me crying. The family had gone to an awards ceremony and afterwards, her daughter snapped again. On the way home she cursed out my niece and her grandfather. I advised my niece to call the Social Services staff again, explain that they weren't able to wait until week for outpatient therapy, and ask them to come to her house immediately. I could hear her daughter screaming and cursing in the background. I had a lot of trouble with my own daughter's illness and it just breaks my heart to see this happening.
