Recently we watched a Japanese movie “Ran” by the director of another very famous movie, Seven Samurai. Or I should say "read " the movie as we watched it with help of the English subtitles.
It was a very, very long movie but quite mesmerizing. It is an adaptation of Shakespeare ’s play King Lear with an old Japanese warlord, his two greedy, ungrateful sons, a court fool and the youngest son that had been banished for his brutal honesty.
The dialogues and the acting were excellent and so were the battle scenes.
I would recommend it if you like classic Japanese movies and have about 3 hours to spare. But it’s really worth it.

It's been a long time since I watched this movie. Agree with you. It is worth watching even if you do have to read the subtitles.
