~I Made A Bad Deal~

My oldest daughter

So there are times when I get tired of having to ask my children over and over again to do something. So yeah I make these deals with them, I guess you could call them bribes. Lol. Most of the time the deals benefit me more than the kids. This time...well...not so much. Yesterday I made a deal with my oldest daughter, she would do the dishes for me and today I would help her get her room organized. That is a HUGE task and I have no idea really what exactly I was thinking at the time I said it. It just came out before I really thought it through. This time I made a really bad deal and she got the better end of this deal...And before you say it-nope she has the best memory any 10 year old could have so she is not going to forget-i wish!

I think most parents make deals or bribes with their kids. I know I have, and I'm sure it's going to happen again. At least you can said that some thing got done. Her room got organized, and the dishes got done. So I guess that's something.

@dodo19 Yeah, I did a lot of cleaning yesterday and organizing so my plan for today was NOT to do anything close to that. Too bad my mouth moved before my brain caught up!

Mine's too young to understand me as it is, or he just chooses to ignore me . Either way I am sure I'll end up making deals or giving him bribes later on when he gets old enough lol.

I think kids get the best deals a lot of the time. Dishes in exchange for cleaning up her bedroom, lol that is not something I would want to have to do as dishes would be easier. Oh well, you are a good mother to help her for whatever reason.

I am sure that she will be very happy that you have helped her and once it's all said and done, you will be glad of it too. Growing up it was always hard for me to keep my room clean. Id clean it up really good and then it'd go back to a mess in no time flat.

@Scribbledadnauseum Yeah I know she will be very happy when her room is all clean again. Yeah I was the same way growing up, I swore someone messed with things when I want looking. Lol

@ScribbledAdNauseum I was the same and my older sister hated it since we shared a room!

@LovingMyBabies I also absolutely loved moving things around, even if that meant it made it a bit messier. My idea of "clean" was if all the "junk" was off to one side.

After you realized you made a bad deal, you should have just told her to do both chores because you are the parent and because you said so haha but I know it wouldn't have gotten done. Understandable. And she's 10 so she isn't dumb.

@daniegirl80587 Nope it wouldn't have gotten done-or at least not the way I want it done! Wish it was that easy though. Lol

@Miniam It's really not, their room was a mess and they mess it up pretty fast. I told them next time it looks like that they are doing it by themselves.

When I was young (elementary) Grade 4, my Mom made a deal with me. She asked me to at least be part of in the honor lists in our class and in exchange she will buy a Tamiya (90's popular toy). And of course because I am a fan of the toy before and get jealous with my friends who had it, I did everything and luckily made it as 2nd honor. She then, bought me Tamiya. Since then, every time I'll be part of honor lists or get an award there need to have a reward. My Mom's way to motivate me to study well. Not bad. Right?

Well you've said it now, so you've got to go through with it. At least you will both have the satisfaction of a tidy room.

@Paigea Yeah it is worth it but her and her sister mess things up fairly quickly-unfortunately. I told them though once it's all done next time they will be doing it by themselves.

When I was a kid I used to deal with my mom. I'll do the laundry but she will be the one Ironing it. Cuz I find it more difficult. Until now, I don't know how to iron clothes that well.

Most parents make deals. I made deals with my nieces when I babysit them. They don't get to go on the ipads or play minecraft on my computer until they clean their room. And really? Is it that hard to clean up a 10 year olds room? I wish my mom would have given me that kind of deal when I was a kid! My room probably wouldn't be such a mess! haha

@DesirousDreamer It is a 10 year old and a 7 year old's room and yes it looks like a tornado hit it! So yeah it's not a picnic by far. Next time they are doing it themselves because they mess it up in minutes usually.

@LovingMyBabies That is silly. But I think making deals kind of just works. As long as it isn't a terrible bribe and they basically will only do stuff because they are getting something out of it.
