I was looking around on the Internet and discovered the secret of earning money on myLot. It was in a comment section of something I don't remember. The advice was to figure out what your audience is interested in and write only about those subjects. It is simple and to the point, but really hard to do. I have trouble in that area. I often guess wrong about what people want to know about, what sparks their interests and tickles their fancies. What do you think? How do you pick what to write about?

If we are talking about 'earnings' and 'secrets', I have to say that I have no 'secrets' about 'earning'. It's mostly just luck. I pick what I want to write about by having an idea which worrits my brain until I find the words to let it out. Sometimes the words don't actually say very much about the real idea and often the REAL (and 'secret') point of the discussion only reveals itself in the last sentence (or the first or somewhere - anywhere - in between). I don't usually design my discussions like this - to 'hide' the real point (though sometimes I'm aware of the obfuscation). They just happen because I start off trying to write something sensible and straightforward but then an impish something says that what I really meant to say was something quite different. When that happens, there will be a few who take my topic and turn it into something quite different, go off at a tangent and start a private thread which even I can't follow. At those times, I just have to sit back and say nothing. It's all good, however, because it's all 'interaction'! The other times when I have had a lot of responses have been when some kind friend has recommended my discussion to their followers. I suppose that the discussion must already have something about it which makes those people want to respond because, quite often, discussions have been recommended to me and, having looked at them, I haven't found anything more I could add to them.

I have absolutely no idea who any of those mysterious and mischievous miscreants could be who take your innocent topics and run with them in many unintended directions. Having said that, none of them are "private conversations" as anyone who is warped enough to follow them is more than welcome to join in.

I rarely write any discussions but if I do it's normally on some sort of current affairs type topic. A lot of people talk about their daily lives and that seems to go down well.

@EddieHands for the moment I'm sticking to responding or commenting. When I get a decent idea for a discussion I'll put it up

I mostly interact with others, and write mostly about what's going on in my life, how I feel, and stuff like that. My lot is a good place for that.

LOL - Apparently I haven't figured out who my audience is ... or maybe I just don't have an audience ... because I rarely start a discussion.

@DaddyEvil I appreciate the fact that you take the time to go back through and resurrect some of the older discussions. I think that people do not realize that just because a discussion (just like a person) is older does not mean that it (or he/she in the case of a person) does not have value. In fact, the older discussions often are more well thought out and have more substance than the newer ones, because the standards were higher and Guidelines stricter back then.

@DaddyEvil Of course the older person has value. You are not old, though. You are taking medicine that affects your memory, which is something different, and you still have a ton of value, my friend!

@purplealabaster Unfortunately, sometimes I do wonder about whether the older person has value or not... I don't author a post very often and it appears that I can't keep up with what I and my friends were talking about just a few days ago! SMH!

Yes, things like that seem to interest people. I think part of it is that they can identify with what others go through.

This might sound like arrogance but i prefer to write about things that matter to me, world news, books, family life, culture etc and hope that others find my posts interesting or at least worth reading.

I don't think that it's arrogant - just common sense. We always write (or talk) best about things that really matter to us and, very often, our own conviction and love of the subject is what can open the door for someone else to understand and become passionate about the same things which move us.

OH, that is easy! Just do what many other newbies do... Come here, find a post that is really attracting lots of interest and copy it word for word! You will see more discussion than you can shake a stick at appear! Granted, the discussion won't be on your post, but you will certainly become the talk of myLot for a couple of hours! I simply write about whatever I happen to think of and then wait and see if anyone even notices I even wrote a new post. (So far, all my posts have gotten a minimum of 38 responses... The highest so far was sixty something responses.) I think that happens because I keep showing up on people's discussions but I don't have any new ones so they wait until I post one and then mob it! LOL! (I honestly have no clue why that has happened, but I hope it is because people like me, not because they are trying to "pay me back" for showing up and enjoying what they wrote.) I seldom write a new post for discussions... I have just posted my second one in a week here on myLot, which is extremely unusual. What is even more unusual is that I actually have a third written and ready to post! (Yeah, I will wait a few days before posting it.) I deleted eight? discussions a few weeks ago, leaving only the tutorial I wrote about myLot. (Someone ask me to let him add it to the roster for newbies coming to myLot who had a problem with their inbox being filled from myLot notifications.) It took me six or seven months to post that many discussions, to give an idea of how often I author a new one. If you ever figure out the real way to earning big bucks on this site, Jo Ann, please share that with me... Thank you!

@akalinus I already earn "real money" on this site, for this site. I have hit payout every month except for my first one here. On other sites, I am/was a solid earner... My best site was WebAnswers, but it recently closed down. I was earning $150 to $200 a month there. I really miss that site! My forte is research. I like to look things up and do for people on myLot quite often.

I don't know if it is possible to earn real money. I will be concentrating more on writing for other sources to see if I can make more. It is iffy on the net but I know of a few places to go that are print or online magazines. I would not recommend copying anything word for word. And attribution is always nice if you can manage it. I will share with you if I come up with any stunning ways to make a lot of cash.

@akalinus And many are not interested in politics. I love to write about American politics because I used to be an active campaign leader of some politicians when I was still in the Philippines. In fact, I also wrote speeches for a mayor of our town in Northern Philippines, who is my friend.

I know what you mean to know is confusing. I have written posts here that I thought was awesome and I get a few looks. Then I write something that maybe only I find interesting and bam 30 or 40 responses. Beats me I guess I will just write what I find interesting and be happy with that.

The secret to earning on Mylot is writing very long responses, make sure that it is a lot of letters and also search tagged discussions, like toy, sun, money and post comments on them.

This makes sense. Some of the discussions I see most popular are all inclusive. That is, something we can all relate to. I am pretty bad at this. I start discussions about liteeally whatever comes to mind and I realize that makes it so some people may not relate and therefore may not respond. It looks like you are getting the hang of it because I can see you have a ton of responses :-) good job!

I write about what is important to me, not to other people. If people like it cool, if they don't...oh well. That means I write about stuff going on in my life and I also write about mental health topics. I'm trying to get back into the swing of things here on MyLot so I haven't been able to tell if my posts really interest people or not.
