It was in the year 1971 and I was in Toronto in a pizza place with my then boy friend. Someone got up and put some money in the jukebox and then I heard it. I was so enthused about it that I ask my boy friend to put more money so I could hear it again. That Christmas day, one of my girl friend gave me a record of it. Needless to say that I was overjoyed. Oh and by the way, this boy friend is not the man that I married a few years later.
Lyrics: Hello darkness, my old friend I've come to talk with you again Because a vision softly creeping Left its seeds while I was sleeping And the vision th...

I love that song. One Christmas I asked as usual for an Elvis album, but my brother, who chose my name got me the Graduate, with this song on it. I might not have been too happy with the album, but I LOVE this song and yes, could listen to this by the hour.

Did you succeed in playing it on your guitar?

@marlina it was so hard to learn, lol. I was just starting to learn the guitar then, and I gave up on learning the song. I was just so eager to play all my favorite songs but I did not succeed with The Sound of Silence. I just contend myself listening to the song. The Boxer is likewise a great song

@marlina It is good you have such a memory. I suspect I heard it on Top-Of-The-Pops, the BBC TV show that played the chart music from that era, either that or the radio when I was young.

I remember the song well. It was in the movie "The Graduate" and another movie. Sometimes, silence is a tremendous roar.

grew up listening to Simon & Garfunkel along with other great classics and legends. My dad is of that era so i picked up on his appreciation of music. :) my favorite song by them is Cecilia, my now all grown up little cousin , i can still see her at 4 years old singing and giggling and dancing to that song in the kitchen. lol the one thing i love about songs and music in general is how powerful it is.,like a time machine almost ... with some of the memories those melodies are able to retrieve and recall
