When you think of the high desert in California you think of cactus, mesquite bushes and maybe if you are lucky a Joshua Tree here and there. So when I got here I thought of planting more cactus and shrubs.
I also had an old deck area that I had the crazy idea to raise the beds up in and try a garden. A friend bought Iris bulbs and I asked "Can you grow flowers in the desert?" So I put a few bulbs around the perimeter of the garden.
The picture is my reward thanks to the April showers up here. Sure these native desert folks worry about flooding and the like, but I thought of my garden. The best thing about gardening is it takes a little soil, a bit of water and God does the rest
