Old Habits Do Die

Do you think that after returning to my home I'd remember how to use things I've used for many years or remember where things are kept?
I forgot how to use the ovens, how to set our bedroom clock, and which knob lights which burner on the range top. I also forgot where I keep the coffee here. It is in the cabinet over the microwave, not in the cabinet below, as it is in Florida. My husband had a good laugh over that!
I also forgot that my favorite rain boots are now in Florida.
I know I will adjust, but also realize that the same thing will happen in Florida.

I moved the silverware from one drawer to another over a year ago. I am the one who puts it away out of the dishwasher, I am the one most likely to go into that drawer several times a day for utensils to cook with, etc. And even I sometimes go to the other drawer first. Things become habit and when we are thinking about other things or distracted, that second nature habit takes over and takes us to the ingrained memory.

@DianneN wow so very far away! I usually fly into Newark actually and change flights to Baltimore or get the train. Used to visit Maryland every 3 month

I love wall ovens. I have no idea why the other type are still sold. Who wants to get down to knee level and reach inside a hot oven? Makes no sense at all.

@DianneN I wish these people used their heads. Maybe they should be required to use them when they are very hot and have a pie inside! Let them burn themselves once and see where they put them thereafter.

I believe that as we grow older, old habits gradually die!

Just consider it a new adventure. You'll get the hang of it soon enough. It will be a good thing to laugh over in years to come.

So I guess your house in Florida is no an exact copy of the one at home. It is strange how we get used to reaching for something in a certain place, and just expect it to be there. By the time you get fully adjusted, it will be time to return to Florida.
