Underground Rail Rat

Rail Rat

If you have spent any amount of time on London Underground you will have seen some of the system's resident population of rodents. Mostly it will be the dark coloured mice scurrying back and forth hunting for food scraps, but occasionally larger rats can be seen. To add a little realism to the schooling, at the West Ashfield training station there is a fearless rat perched on the rail, just in front of the train mock up, watching the trainees as they are put through their paces on the simulator. A friendly fellow, he doesn't judge and keeps his opinions on the training to himself.

Cute friendly rat, they are pretty adaptable, I see them every time in the Milan metro.

@Ronrybs Do you believe they cross using the tunnel? Be careful soon you will be invaded.

I can imagine some of the trainees keeping their eye on him for a while till they work out he's not for real.

@Ronrybs I gather you don't like snakes? Or is it just hose-pipes masquerading as cobras?

I recall that we were told before we entered there was a toy rat on the rail. I know some people who freak out over rats. I was once terrified by a hose pipe I thought was a cobra!

@JudyEv If I leave snakes alone, they should leave me alone. Not at all keen, but live and let live

Some of the rats I have seen in the NYC subway system tunnels probably aren't even rats, more like small dogs with funny looking ears.
