My son had bought a new washer and dryer for his home and they went and picked it up and brought it to his house.
They had bought a number of other items also and spent around $1600 total .
Well the other day he went to use the the dryer and it doesn't work, can you believe a brand new dryer and the first time he goes to use it, it doesn't work.
It is under warrenty so they called the store because the first year is a store warrenty, since they have no one in our town to look at it they said someone from Worthington would call yesterday, well by noon no one had called so my son called them and they said the guy works on his own schedule and would call in a few days.
Well that has not gone over good so a call was made this morning and he talked to the front end manager who said there is nothing we can do.
Let me tell you that did not go over good and so he asked to speak with the head manager who said okay bring the dryer back and you can take home another one.
Menards has just lost some good customers if that is how they treat their customers, that was a big mistake on their part.

Oh, so Menards did this. eh? I think they should have paid for a delivery guy to pick up and drop off another dryer.

If we could have have a pick up and drop off that would have been nice but living so far from there we have to do it ourselves.

That is one bad thing about living so far out from any large towns.

We bought five appliances last spring. The freezer did not work....there was a switch that wasn't working. The dryer didn't work properly. It took about 3 weeks before we had everything working. Quite frustrating.

Ahh isn't it strange how reading a post will bring back a memory like that?

To me 3 weeks is not acceptable and I would not have waited that long, as it is very frustrating.

@Marcyaz I was quite ticked off at the time. It's amazing how a little time and if I hadn't read your post, I probably would never have thought about it again.

They should take a new ine to your house and take the bad one at the same time. Why should you use your car and your gas to change it?

The store is an hour and a half away and they don't deliver this far.

@Marcyaz It is a shame. It was fine the first time, but not now when it is their fault.

They didn't know what hit them after a while is why the store manager said bring it back as that first manager was just the front end manager not over the whole store.

That is one reason we have the store deliver appliances, they have to install them and make sure they work. Hope they get it taken care of.

That is fine if you can buy close to where you live and not an hour and a half away from where you live.

Not when they have to drive an hour and a half they won't as they say they only deliver in there town and surrounding areas but not this far away.

Wow, they have terrible customer service. We bought a new washer a while back, the first time we tried to use it, it flooded our laundry room, they came out, brought us a new one and took the other one back.

You were lucky and must live in town, unfortunately we have to go an hour and a half away to an appliance store.

I suspose I could call the BBB but since my son was able to get another dryer I don't see where they could do anything.

That is not good at all. That is a sure fire way to go out of business--treating customers like that. :(

No it is not good and people will hear about it. Word of mouth can do a lot of damage to a business.

When you get a little upset with them then they cave in.

I worked in retail for about 2 years of my life and I just do not understand companies or people. I explained to my employees that it is about customer service, because the product we sold, you could buy either the same thing or something similar at another store. I explained that if we had great customer service, that is how we will succeed.

Since I now know how Menards operates it will be a long time before I, my family, friends will buy anything from there again. You are right their customer service should be good not saying we can't do anything when it is brand new and was going to be used for the first time and didn't work.

@Marcyaz I was a manager for 2 years and if I was called up to customer service for an upset customer, I always had the rule. If it was the stores fault, I bend over backwards. If was 99% the customers and they were yelling and acting like a child and I had proof and could use a policy that no I am not going to help you, than sorry you are out of luck. If you were 99% wrong as a customer, but you were calm and explained the situation I would try to do something (store credit, etc.). Yes and this last scenario, I could throw policy back at the customer, but hey they were calm and I want to keep the customer.
