Why do we forget things?

It makes me to wonder ,why and how we do forget things .Things that we were able to keep in a safe place and condition. Even things we labor for in our study,we struggle to remember them. Items,names,places,events name them.It si a common affliction that in one way or the other we do forget. Can some tell me a way out of this predicament

im going throuh the same dillema my friend so i cant help you im sorry. 
my friends know better than letting me keep their stuff as i will only forget all about it the next day.
im not good in names too so i just smile and say hi and leave before i get to the part that i have to really ask for their name again.
