Do you keep a diary or journal?

Keeping a record of one's life–whether the written work is implied for the writers eyes, posted on an online journal for all to see, or imparted to a select few–is a typical practice. Do you participate in it? Do you compose for a crowd of people or just yourself? Why? Have you gotten to be more–or less–active in chronicling your life and times as you get older?

I don't but my late mom did. She made simple entries, nothing exciting, all about her daily life with my father and we kids. I'm so happy she did because now I have them and have read them several times.

I had a diary when I was a young teen and felt it was useless, I hated writing in it so I stopped. However, since I was 13, I have been reading novels and then about 10 years ago, I decided to write a novel. Then, because my writing skills were not good, I started taking college classes to get my Creative Writing degree (which I received last December) and I remember a couple classes where we had to keep journals. One semester I didn't take classes and did the NaNo challenge where I wrote a 50,000 word novel in 30 days, making my finished and unedited novel count to 2.
I guess most writers keep journals, but not me and I hated having to keep a journal for class. Of course now that I have my degree, the first couple months I edited only 4 pages of one of my novels and got burned out. Don't know if it was just a faze or I need motivation, but I haven't touch my novel in weeks.

No, I don't keep one. Though not considered as diary/journal, I list down my things to do on a daily basis. But I don't keep them, I throw them once I'm done accomplishing everything on my list.

I used to keep a dairy when I was younger! It is like a therapy and allows you to remember events that otherwise, you could not recall given the necessity.
I do not keep a dairy in the present; however, I´m thinking on starting one just to maintain a good record of the daily events in life.

I started keeping a journal when my son was a teenager (he's 48 now so it's been a long time!) I've never had a good memory, plus I love to write to it was a good idea to write things down. Not just special events, but every day happenings, little things the kids said or did.
My kids have said to please save all my journals and I hope one day a great-great- grandchild will enjoy getting to know me!

When I was very young I would keep a journal...then for some reason as life went on, I wanted to keep it less and less...for some reason reading the thoughts of earlier days began to seem painful in some sense. That said, I do keep notebooks where I write my thoughts, or think things through, but it's not in journal style so much as random articulation.

I should I think keeping a diary or journal helps you see things clearly as you should. And I use it to see what I need to do for the day.

Well, I do start off with resolving every year that I would maintain a diary of sorts and I've bought many pretty notebooks. But in the end, I just slack off. I get bored in the middle. I've realized that writing helps me only when I'm sad or upset or worked up. It clears my head up. So I have a notebook where I record those moments that are of most importance to me. I love reading some of my old entries and just feeling happy about how some of the things that I was worried about have changed for the better.
