My Favorite Blondie Songs: #10 "The Hardest Part" (1979)

Blondie is my favorite group. They introduced me to the punk/alternative/new wave scene in the late 70s. Debbie Harry was something else. A song about an armored car robbery? Written by Harry and guitarist Chris Stein, "The Hardest Part" is exactly that: "Twenty five tons of hardest steel rolls on no ordinary wheels.' The title refers to the difficulty of getting past the guards. Nothing is surprising from the band that once tore up the stage at CBGBs. Blondie along with fellow CBGB bands The Ramones and Talking Heads are the founders of American punk new wave. The band has a unique sound led by Clem Burke's drums and of course, Harry's vocals. "The Hardest Part" was a minor hit charting at number 84 and is on the "Eat to the Beat" album.

This was early on for Blondie and just breaking out from alternative radio to mainstream.
