Should a child wear a diaper in public?

Due to mental illness some children do not get potty trained until a later age. Do you think these children should wear normal underwear or a diaper when they go in public? I would find it embarrassing as a child if I had to wear a diaper in public but then again if the child has an accident in public it might be more embarrassing to be wearing normal underwear. What are your thoughts?

My autistic son was not potty trained until about age 5. When he started school at age 4 he wore disposable training pants ("pull ups.") Was he embarrassed to wear them? Not at all! To him it was just normal. And they really aren't obvious. I don't think his classmates knew he wore them.

Now that they have "pull-ups" for children that look like underwear I'd probably put that on my child if I had to go out and he/she wasn't totally potty trained.

Just like the elderly who are sometimes incontinent, some children for various physical and mental reasons need to wear disposable underwear or "diapers" of some kind. It is much better to do that than to be constantly embarrassed by accidents. If they are wearing proper clothes no one knows anyway.

Well to prevent accidents or discomfort, babies should wear diapers, even toddlers. Why be ashamed when they need to wear it?
