"The lady protests too much"~Shakespeare
Self-esteem is a positive attitude. It's good to have self-confidence in yourself and your abilities. But unreasonable self-esteem becomes pride which is among the 7 deadly sins.
This is not a discussion about religious morality (They tend to bring out our prejudice and hypocrisy). It's a personal rant.
Recently I read a discussion wherein the writer complaint about the proliferation of what we former bubblews members call "fluff post". Articles like "What I ate for lunch", "How's the weather?", "I earn $ today!", "Good morning", "Good night". These type of post rarely elicit more than a short comment and do not promote an exchange of views that can become interesting or thought provoking.
While I agree with the writer's opinion for a need to elevate the discussion to a more productive and stimulating level, we should remind ourselves that this site is more of a social network. Like any social gathering, people have conversations that usually involve their daily activities, what they did or how their day when.
Why should discussions in myLot be any different?
If you feel these are not the kind of discussion that interest you, then look for something that does.
I join myLot for the interaction and camaraderie among fellow members. How about you?
Keep in light, have fun and enjoy.

Several years ago, before bubblews came in, mylot was a site where people discussed so many diverse things. It wasn't merely a good morning, a challenge post, etc. Almost everybody participated in each others' discussions without having to think whether they'll get back the same favour or not. I guess that's why some mylot members got engaged and ended up getting married, some became real good friends and they still keep in touch until now.
But from the time that mylot came back and tweaked some of the rules, the environment changed. It's becoming more and more like bubblews (minus the earnings). And most old mylot members seem to miss the good old days and I understand that as I am one of them.
However, you are right. If one doesn't feel that discussion, one can always choose to stay away from it, because I do.

I've been here for five years and this is the first time I've heard about people getting engaged or married because this website gave them the opportunity to get to know each other. Was this a one time occurance or were there several do you know? friendly hello to @toniganzon

@toniganzon _I would have been right at home in the old mylot. As I understand it, members of the old mylot earn through referrals unlike today where earnings are derived from comments and likes. This set up will inadvertently produce the same bubblews outcome of fluff post and "nice post" comments. But people will gravitate to those who share similar preference and common interest. This would factor into your choice of whom to follow. "Separating the wheat from the chaff" as the saying goes.

@Bluedoll I've been here for 6 years and I know it was more than just one occurrence. The Philippine mylot members back then actually had a meet up event every now and then. The couple i know started liking each other here on mylot first and when they finally decided to meet they became officially a couple and they ended up getting married. IN fact there were several posts of that here congratulating the two of them and other people too.

perhaps those folks need a blog, where they've more control o'er content 'n can e'en monitor responses to their topics?

@crazyhorseladycx _"Different strokes for different folks" as the saying goes. People join mylot for different reasons. Should we begrudge those who are here mainly for the money? It won't surprise me if we start seeing complaints about "nice post" comments which was also rampant in bubblews.

@crazyhorseladycx _People like to get something for their time and effort. Recognition is good but money is better. and recognition with money the best.

They should just leave if they don't like it. In mylot unless it's a violation of the guidelines, they can write as many times as they want, they have the right it ignore the post. Some people are just full of themselves, oh well in time they'll get used to it.

@josie_ - Kumusta - magandang gabi Josefina - Gotta admit that I don't go for those "I had a cup of water for breakfast" posts, but some people don't have all that much going on in their daily lives, so I do understand that they are probably trying really hard to participate. Good post here, Josie.

@josie_ Ms Josie - How about "I am about to place a period at the end of this sentence" to spark real interest in a posting?
Learned a new word (I believe...), "hapon." I will presume that "hapon" refers to afternoon. Presumptions rule, right?

@Ceerios _ Magandang hapon Gus. (It's 1:27 pm here in the Philippines) I don't mind reading posts about daily events in our very ordinary and regular lives. But make it interesting to your readers. "I had brew coffee is so-so, but I mistakenly put salt instead of sugar in my coffee would have been better. Not to you the coffee drinker but to the reader's curiosity.

I have a strong opinion on this issue though I would change my mind if someone were to supply true facts. In my opinion the bubba website experiment failed because of mismanagement. It was not the members good bad or otherwise contributions that caused is failure. It was the owners responsibility to delete spam and regulate their payment plan wisely.
I don't believe that any amount of complaining or changing how people write would have made one bit of difference in its success. Good learning experience for other site owners.

@josie_ Of course we can complain and criticize at anytime or after the fact but I think it is better to understand and learn from any experience. Although, I must say, much of what we might learn about social sites doesn't apply to us. Unless of course we own a social website.
I think the issue here is not so much about the owners though. The owners are the people that will maintain or break a site. The issue if there is one is putting the blame on the shoulders of the members that write on a social site. The way some posts sound to me is just as you wrote above on "fluff posts" that seem to express that it is the members responsibility to write properly for if the site were to fail - their fault. - I don't think that is completely true.

@Bluedoll _One could say many factors contributed to the demise of bubblews. Lack of experience of the owners, Laxity of the rules that allow spammers to exploit it. The imbalance finances where income generated could not sustain the member's cash payout. But I would be like a Monday morning quarterback. How easy to criticize and give opinions of what when wrong AFTER the fact..

I agree with you and other poster. I mean I don't mind the daily posts, but some of the challenges aren't me. I didn't mind doing the ten things about me because that can spark discussions. And the poem ones are good, but the name ones aren't me.

I feel like this is a place where we can freely discuss whatever comes to mind. If we had an uneventful day why not discuss your earnings for the day or what the weather is like? I try to be somewhat interesting with my posts but there are times where I have no ideas at all and that should be ok.

@missjessicadawn _ Writing about everyday activities is what this site is all about. We're not in mylot to produce literary masterpieces.

The camaraderie and interaction means a lot to me. I know where to look online if I need intellectual stimulation, and I know where I go to relax and interact. Both serve a purpose.
