After two days of light rain, today the sun is back. As my lawn was largely overgrown, I decided that it was time to go out and mow. I have mowed the edges first, then, before cutting the middle, I took a break and I looked at the little wild flowers and the weeds mixed to the grass. Clover flowers, grass inflorescence, dandelions, buttercups, they were too nice to be cut with the grass. I have picked up several bouquets, that are now decorating my house. Here is the photo of one of the bouquets. Do you know the name of those small white flowers with green stripes? It's the first year that I see them in my garden.

Surely the concept of a weed is man made. In my opinion it matters not whether a plant is considered a weed due to some arbitrary man made designation. If it looks nice it looks nice.

I agree, I do not see the reason why we should say that a rose is a flower and a dandelion is a weed. I like them both.

Your lawn must really have been overgrown if these were growing there! The way you have them arranged is delightful, they look really lovely. I don't know what the white flowers are either.

Yes, my lawn had really overgrown. Until last week my hand was still not good enough to be able to wear garden gloves and use a mower.

@jaboUK My hand is fine now, the skin is still a bit red, but this is not a problem. It happened 5 weeks ago, it took longer than I thought.

@LadyDuck I hope your hand is ok now Anna - these things do take a while to heal, don't they?

This does seem a novel use for weeds, although I would have simply mowed over them myself.

I had not the heart to cut all those beautiful flowers, too many have been cut with the grass. I feel guilty.

Uhm... Ornithogalum Nutans, maybe, Anna? At least that is what it looks like to me, anyway. Your bouquet is quite nice!

@LadyDuck You are welcome! I would have called it a Shooting Star if you had said you picked it out of my yard, but I have no clue if you have white Shooting Stars where you live. (I looked online for Shooting Stars, but everything I found were shades of pink and red.)

What a beautiful bouquet! I'm sorry I don't know the name of those pretty wildflowers. Three of my grandchildren were here day before yesterday and the two girls went out and picked flowers for their mom. The had several different kids of wildflowers and one child decided to pick one of my big iris for her. I wasn't really upset over it, there are plenty of them, but her mom made her cry over it. I was upset with her for making the little one cry!

I like everything that grow spontaneously. I always leave small areas of the garden where I do not cut the grass and do not pick up the weeds, they can also be nice.

@LadyDuck I actually dont like the look of trimmed grass, some day I want to replant with something that grows shaggy but doesnt look like a field, and will just let it go all natural

I don't know the name of that weed. We have a new lawn and had our first application from a Green company to fertilize, control bugs, control weeds, etc. while we were still in Florida. The only weeds I expect to see are the wild flowers in the woods! Your bouquet is precious!

We are no more allowed to use weed control because they kill the bees. I use salt for the area where I do not care to kill the weeds. Now I will keep the lawn under control and the weeds will be invisible.

@DianneN The salt kills the plants, it works like a herbicide. I also have the cat of the neighbor that comes to our garden all the day, I do not want to hurt him.

@LadyDuck Our company is all natural. It prevents grubs in the lawn, but won't kill bees. Our lawn has to be safe, because Doodles goes out at least five times a day, and the grandkids play on it. What does salt do?

@LadyDuck My weeds are thistles right now. However, I should be seeing dandelions soon. They will pop up all over the yard and seem to blanket it with gold.

A very nice bouquet of wild flowers. When they are blooming, I like to pick some when I go for my walk along the bike path and bring back to put on my table. I really like the clover. I don't know what the white flowers are.
