Cars are a mystery to me..

Yesterday I left for work at the normal (an hour early despite its a 10 minute drive) and I got two blocks before it started making this horrible metal on metal noise. Sounded like perhaps coming from a wheel. I freaked out, parked my car and ran for the bus to work. (And made it on time!). I take the bus home and limp my car over to my dads. Borrow his car to run some errands. (Thank god for my dad! Who lets me borrow it whenever as need be). I returned a few hours later when he was home and we did a test drive together. He is a mechanic so usually certain sounds are enough for diagnostic purposes. Lo and behold...no noise. Quiet as can be. He tells me sometimes cars make weird noise when theres a lot of humidity. Really?! Have you had any strange noises come from your vehicle - and then it was nothing?! How bizarre.

Yeqh, I usually experienxe squeaky sound when I turned on the aircon after the car parked under the sun. I suspect that it is coming from the belt inside the hood. I'm not sure.

Fortunately I do not drive! Most of us here take public transportation, especially the subway. It is fast because there is no traffic jam.

It could also be a small rock that got into your brake and then worked its way out.

I know nothing about cars... You are lucky to have a dad that can give you advice!!

You could have gotten a small rock in the wheel drum or between the brakes and rotor that fell out before your dad took it for a test drive.

As much as I wanted to help you, I don't own a car and I don't drive.

That is strange. I am not sure to be honest. Could be that engine working harder when weather hot.
