Many countries spend millions of dollars hosting international sporting events, do you think it helps improve people’s lives?

I'm sure there are those who would say the events bring tourism and inject funds into the country's economy, but I'm not convinced these revenues outweigh the costs. When Montreal hosted the Olympics in 1976, for example, just the cost of the stadium was so great that it was nicknamed the "Big Owe." It took three whole decades for the taxpayers of Quebec to pay off that enormous debt.

For example, my country has spent quite a lot of money to hold Olympics and sponsor sportsmen. However, I don't think it has something to do with the people. It means less for me even if the sportsmen win the gold medals. As we are not beneficial from it.
