Harriet Tubman

I have just read that Harriet Tubman will replace Andrew Jackson on the $20 bill. Andew Jackson will not be removed completely as they will put him on the back of the $20 bill. You ask who was she, she was an African American who was a Union Spy during the American Civil War. She was also an abolitionist and humanitarian. She was born a slave but escaped and became a famous "conductor" on the Underground Railroad, leading hundreds of slaves to freedom. This bill won't be circulated until after 2020.

@BelleStarr I did not say that owning slaves was a disqualification, I only mentioned it in passing.

@Marcyaz Well so did George Washington and Thomas Jefferson so that is not a disqualification.

Sweet! This is exciting, in my opinion. I am not really aware of whatever president Jackson did during his term, but it can't beat Tubman.

@Marcyaz Yup, the 1800's. Let's just hope by the time they do it in 2020 that the Fed doesn't change it.

I read about that, and think it's wonderful! Also happy they are leaving Hamilton alone. My grandkids would be so disappointed!

Interesting. I wonder though why they are making another change to our currency. Might as well have Monopoly money soon.

It was like a palm to the forehead moment for me the other day when I heard this one the news. Why haven't women been on paper money before this? They had the Susan B. Anthony quarter wasn't it?And, nothing since or on the money.

It is about time for all the reasons you state. Jackson was a man of his time, but he was no friend to the Native Americans of the US.

So good to see a woman on the money. The first person I saw on the money was the lovely native American on the beautiful golden coin. An excellent step for recognizing outstanding and tremendous American women.

I don't believe I have heard about this woman before but still, she sounds like a great choice to have her face on money. What a good way to have her be remembered all the time. Since people are constantly using money.
