It's OUR Turn-Politics, Political Correctness and a Woman President

Whoever coined the phrase “politically correct” would be a billionaire if they were paid a penny for each time the phrase was bandied about. Older folks may talk about “watching our P’s and Q’s” but simply put people have been trained, shamed or blamed for speaking their mind all in deference to the concept of political correctness. My goal is to say the things many have thought but have held their tongue on. On the subject of US politics it seems we have oddly enough sort of abandoned the concept all together. Pushing and shoving at conventions, candidates bashing women, minorities and gays and what seems to be a complete abandonment of the beleaguered concept of not only political correctness but seemingly all civility. So let’s talk. No matter what, there will always be voters who vote for a candidate because they are like them. Blacks may vote for a black candidate, whites for a white candidate, Mormons for a Morman candidate and so on. GASP! Yes I said it and we all know in our all knowing guts that this is true. It is fair to say then that an election may be effected by this factor as well as timing. The overall climate in the country for a particular group may clearly affect voting trends. So let’s talk Hillary Clinton. The “boys” both in the race, but also in the media and social media like to bash her and put forth a variety of theories, as opposed to facts. By way of example, Bernie Sanders’ Wall Street Conspiracy Theory went up in smoke when Hillary Clinton’s records were released and she gave more to charity than what she was paid for all of those “Wall Street” speaking engagements. Sounds like corruption to me….parumph. I could go on but I won’t. Point of fact is that in 2016 well after George Orwell’s “1984” and even years after the fictional “2001-A space odyssey” women are still judged but a differenct yardstick and often given the short end of the stick. Many less evolved countries have had a woman as the “top guy” but not us in the good ole U S of A. Nope the boys network has reinforced the glass ceiling. When women STILL do not have equal pay for equal work, when the supposed “Equal Rights Amendment” never passed and is gathering dust in a legislative pile somewhere and job discrimination and sexual harassment still are alive and flourishing in this great nation. Remember the movie “Network”? Us women folk should be mad as hell. We should stand in our windows and balconies and yell in unison “I am mad as hell and NOT going to take it anymore”. Maybe that is a bit too dramatic and what we should all do is vote. Vote for the woman who should have been President (according to the popular vote) and now has a second chance to bite that apple. The truth is that is not just a chance for Hillary but for all of “us”. I know by now there are certain (not all) males bristling up and getting ready to spew. To borrow a phrase I would only respond simply that “It’s our turn”. I say this with the deepest conviction because the fact is I am voting for Hillary Clinton because she is a woman, and before I get my fingers smacked for typing this, because she is a woman and in my opinion the most qualified “person” for the job. We are all entitled to our opinions in the land of the free and the home of the brave. I just hope that someday it will not be an issue for our daughters that all people, male and female, Black, White, Hispanic and Asian and all of the groups that make up this nation be finally declared to be “created equal”. The real gift for society would be that it would not just be our daughters but our sons and their children who would benefit by America finally putting its practice where its mouth has been.

Thank you for your observation. Sometimes the most objective opinions come from the outside. There is such a media circus with so many unsubstantiated "facts" about all of the candidates, it can be difficult to discern the truth. I did wonder how the rest of the world perceives this election cycle and appreciate your input.
