I have been a reviewer at Epinions for a little over three years; I'm a Top Reviewer in Movies and Books, and I've written over 900 reviews.
Since December of 2003 I've earned over $700.00. In fact, I just won $100.00 in the Holiday Sweepstakes for First Reviews.

Well, the only tips that I have are to practice your writing and work hard to improve on any weaknesses, focus on products you know a great deal about, but don't limit yourself to "comfort zones," either. Read and rate other members' reviews (but don't steal from them!), and try not to take low rates or critical comments personally.

This is so weird. After seeing your article on rats at Helium, I was going to ask you if you were familiar with Epinions.
I started with Epinions back when they were fairly new (2000, they started in latter 1999). I really enjoyed it at first. I didn't write many reviews. I like to write but it is a very slow process for me as I edit and re-edit until I get it the way I really want it. Plus, my son was only 4yo at the time and kept me pretty busy. Hard to write a good review on very little sleep.
Well, it wasn't too long before Epinions start suffering from some major growing pains. They started making alot of changes that didn't make very many people happy. I decided to take a break and go back when things settled down. My life got even busier and just recently, I've been getting the "itch" to start writing reviews again. It's amazing that my little break turned into 7 years!!! I still can't believe it!
To answer your question, back then, I made about $70 on 14 reviews. Some of that also came from one referral's few review. Yes, they used to have a referrel program where you earned a percentage on your referrals reviews too.
Something to keep in mind is that the rate is different in different categories. Or at least it was. I like to do books and that was one of the categories that they greatly reduced the rate on. Then again, maybe that isn't true anymore.
I do enjoy the site and the fact that they are still around this long says alot!
