Have you lost faith in humanity?

I saw this video on FB about a social experiment which was done to gauge people’s honesty. A guy was walking in a crowded street, he reached for his pocket to answer his phone, his wallet fell, and the experiment started. Sadly, most of the people who saw this incident picked up the wallet but didn’t return it to the owner. They must be loyal members of the ‘Finder’s Keepers’ gang and kept the wallet for themselves. Sad truth. One time I had dinner with my friends in a local restaurant. After we finished off everything in our plate, we paid the bill and left. We were almost to the train station when I realized I didn’t have my phone with me. I was sure it was on the table at the restaurant. We immediately headed back to the place with my heart sinking so low. I was ready to be phone-less. Before we could go inside the resto, a young man wearing a familiar vest with the restaurant logo greeted us with a warm smile. He handed my phone to me and I was speechless. He said the customer who came after us returned it to them. So much for not having faith in humanity. Or maybe I was lucky?

The second part happened to me but with money. The person didn't even leave a name just gave it and the person at the desk was very professional. I felt like crying at the time but tears of joy and relief.

What happened to you is a rare happening in our country. I was in Universal Studios in Singapore having fun when I realised i didn't have my phone with me anymore. Thirty minutes had passed already. went back to where i thought i left it and it was still there. I was told nobody would touch it in Singapore since there's CCTV everywhere and it's common practice by people there not to touch somebody else's stuff.

From my experience, I would say that at times we are fortunate that an honest person found the lost item. Yes, they still exist!

There are alot of instances that will really test your faith in humanity. But let us not generalize because there are still some who will do what is right and stand up for it.

I still have faith in humanity. I still believe in the dignity of a person. There are many instances here where in a taxi driver would return any item left inside the baggage compartment or inside his taxi unit.

I think it's kind of silly when people say they've lost faith in humanity because that would mean that they themselves cannot do the right thing. They'd refer to humanity as a whole and that would include them. I always say, if you want to see a hero, be the hero you want to see.

@sol_cee Okay, not literally a hero but at least someone who'd rather do the right thing.

Of course there are still a lot of our kind - honest people . I wonder why those who picked up the wallet of the guy who is experimenting , wasn't returned . Wallets mostly have ID s in them . Well, they are indeed dishonest people .

I have faith in humanity. I believe that deep down inside of us is something good and solid and real. We hear more about the ones who cheat and steal. The majority are the ones we rarely hear about!

True. We often hear about the bad things more often than not. I guess bad news sell faster than the opposite.

@sol_cee Unfortunately, that's true these days. I prefer to hear stories of people overcoming odds and rising above all the bad of this world. I think that if we could make the "good" stories something to strive for, a lot of the bad would disappear.

There are still a lot of good people out there. I had also seen one on Fb, a homeless man found $2500 and he didn't keep the money. He turned it over with the authorities and after this, people started to raise money for him, but he didn't accept it. He said, what he wanted was to have a job.

Actually my experience is that most people return items. The problem is that they do not know where to return the item,so they will pass to customer service counter or library or security guard or police station.

It's best to always think the best when dealing with society these days, as there are still good souls out there that I have come across. Many times people have let me pass while walking down a crowded street. I feel caring individuals are made that way from upbringing.
