Goodness, its Friday already and early this morning my ipad was pinging with a message - Happy Earth Day Lany - it said. So did FB give me a Happy Earth Day wish . . . and what in heaven's name does this all mean? Well if you google - earthday.org you will get the whole picture but to give you a little snippet of what is expected of us on this day, I add: "This Earth Day and beyond, let’s make big stuff happen. Let’s plant 7.8 billion trees for the Earth. Let’s divest from fossil fuels and make cities 100% renewable. Let’s take the momentum from the Paris Climate Summit and build on it. " I am off to get a rose and plant it in my garden which I shall call Katerina . . . maybe a rose because today is my Greek day like every Friday, and the Greeks have a certain passion about roses and Gaia, the Greek goddess of Earth, the “great mother of all,” "The early Greeks (and later, the Romans with their mythological counterparts) inexorably linked the rose to love, beauty, purity and passion. According to the poet Anacreon, seafoam dripping from the body of Aphrodite as she is born turns into white roses; thus representing her purity and innocence. Later, when she is trying to help her wounded lover, Adonis, Aphrodite sheds a few drops of blood onto a white rose and changes it to red; thus representing her desire and passion." Kalimera everyone, Kalimera Katerina!

Two roses are growing "spontaneously" in my lawn. I have not planted them, I do not have roses in my garden. May be the birds or the bees have brought the seeds in my lawn. I am curious to see the colour when they will open. Happy Earth Day to you.

@Inlemay I did not know that roses could grow by seeds, but nobody planted a rose bush in my lawn. I noticed the two small plants last autumn, right now there are three buds ready to open.

@LadyDuck I think that is brilliant - I know that my gran and mom grew them by twigs, so maybe when you pruned your other roses a twig might have dropped there? Who knows, but i cant want to see your blooms

that is odder than odd - how did they get there - Maybe the Greek Goddess sprinkled her love dust over your lawn - or the wind blew it there, I am not sure that roses can grow by seeds? can they? Facilitating

I won't plant a rose as the kangaroos like to eat roses but I'll find something else - perhaps a grevillea. They don't like them.

@Inlemay There is now a great variety of grevilleas. Some really affect people though. When Vince pruned one of ours he came out in great, itchy welts.

I have things I want to do, when we someday build our home we have plans, plans for solar and wind energy, our own water, built into the ground to save power and make safer during storms, etc etc
