Dinner, thunder, lightning and rain

Eugene, Oregon
April 22, 2016 9:41am CST
Just as we sat down to dinner last night, the day-long threat of rain culminated in a windy downpour accompanied by the rumble and crash of thunder. In all the years i have lived in western Oregon, thunder is a rare thing, so I kind of enjoy it when it happens. The noise subsided to a steady rain for the rest of the evening, but in the middle of the night, I was awakened by another round of heavy rain and thunder. I didn't really mind. Do you get a lot of thunder and lightning where you live? Photo is mine

I sure hope to have more rainy days. Over here, the reservoir is running low, and in my neighboring country, the situation is worse. They have started water rationing already.

We are in a drout here in Shafter Ca. We're on schedules for watering yards and such. You can get a ticket if your caught watering your yard and t's not your day or between a certain time and your watering. A lot of the almond farmers have pulled their orchards up because they can't afford the water we do have.

@JamesHxstatic Right now, we are relying on man-made water, as in desalinating sea water, and purified waste water to make it into drinking water. Without such effort, we would have water rationing long ago.

@Hoptam I know about the terrible drought in your country and wish we could send some rain your way. We were caught in the same situation last year and it was a hot, dry year.

There's nothing like a hefty bout of nocturnal thunder and lighting. Often, when it happens, we open the blinds in our bedroom and lie in bed watching and listening!!

Weird, the same thing happened here just a few minutes ago. As we are about to culminate dinner, it happened exactly as you described it. I, too, enjoyed the rare display, at the middle of a rainy summer weather in March just three days of intense heat I believe the sun is really serious to start the proper season.

I love a good thunder and lightening storm which is not an uncommon occurrence here in Illinois. I know I shouldn't but I love to go outside when this is happening to try and get some pictures.

@fishtiger58 Well, there is only a small chance of getting struck by lightning they say.

@JamesHxstatic I know it's kind of crazy but having grown up with thunder storms they don't scare me and I have never thought about the risk to my life when I'm out there taking photos.

With all the rain we get in Oregon, we do see a lot of rainbows too.

I live in Bakersfield California . Well about 18 miles from there. We don't get to much rain here but lately we have some down pours that flood the streets. They say we have one more coming and that should be it for the season.

I know that area is very dry, having driven through it a number of times.

here in Southern California we seldom see a thunderstorm. One was forecast for last weekend but it never happened.

No we get very little, just an occasional storm. I quite like them when they happen, providing I'm not out in it of course.

No, but when we do, there are sometimes ground strikes. Since our utilities are underground, I unplug anything electronic. It is really annoying.

For almost 2 months, no. We haven't had rain since March. I'm expecting for some by June because that's the start of rainy season here in my country.

Since its summer here at my country so we dont have much rain and thunder but when june comes and the ber months there storms are expected. I dont like thunder and combine it with the rain makes it more scary. Idk. I am just afraid of thunderstorm. I dont highly enjoy it since i am a kid and up to this moment.

I love a good thunderstorm. I'm not so keen on lightning but I do know you have to have both if you want one! There is always an upside and downside isn't there?

We do during the summer. A month or so ago we got some lightning snow. It was the first I'd ever seen it. I always thought people were kidding.
