Are women that weak?

The recent news about a woman who was sexually assaulted inside an elevator by a man who is now roaming freely slightly shook my inner reserve for two reasons. One, I am a woman. And two, I always use the elevator.
The local police added more hype to the news when they ‘tweeted’ a warning to women in the area not to take the elevator alone with a man. Which is obviously loco. It’s impossible to never end up on an elevator alone with a man; unless we own the building or we live in a she-world.
Though some people find the tweet encouraging and helpful, I personally believe it’s a bit far-off. Instead of sowing more fear, why not empower women to be on the offensive? Or maybe take sexual assault cases seriously this time? Changing the cultural prejudice against women perhaps? Addressing the actual behavior and not running away from it?
We already have the ‘women only’ train cars. Soon enough, there will be ‘women only’ elevators or ‘women only’ stairs. But sexual assault will always remain. Unless..

I fear the day when the computer has the job of analysing in real-time the video feed from the security cameras inside elevators... How would it interpret the presence of two persons of different gender in the elevator car? And what would it do...? Prevent the elevator doors from closing until a third person entered the car?

LOL Also what would it do if the man forced the woman into the car? lol Instead of dealing with the issue this is what they come up with.

And what of the women that assault men? Obviously we can't castrate them, so what would their punishment be? A scarlet letter?
Instead of advocating an Amazon-like society, perhaps laws should be enforced so that ALL humans are protected, eh?

I read about Japan having women only train cars, and i'm fine with that. However, we can't separate women from men all the time because men take advantage of us. This just pisses me off. I think the government should do something about these abusive people and not just warn the women not to mingle with men at all.

@sol_cee If you ask me, I will give a very cruel penalty than just life imprisonment

Women are not so weak, they are only weak from their mind,if they thought to be offensive they can do whatever they want to do. Man are not so strong as all women imagined.. Just believe in ourselves and get ready to fight.. That's all...

All assaults are terrible and only God can put an end to such things. Thankfully, he will one day!

@sol_cee I just want to make sure. Are you asking, where would people who assault other people go?

That is scary. It's too bad that its not possible to be safe in public. There must be something you can carry to spray on someone wanting to hurt you. I've been out of the work loop for a long time but never did need to use an elevator.

That's scary, I don't think taking stairs are always safe either.

Since I've moved into my apartment building, I'm in the elevator all the time. And usually with a man or two. So far, every man I've met here has been a complete gentleman. But that doesn't mean I'm not prepared if something should happen. I've always got a key in my hand pointing out so, if I need to, I can use it as a weapon. I know I can scream and cause a commotion. And no elevator ride is long enough for anything too bad to happen, so I can even hit the button for a closer floor to get the doors to open and either push him out or I can get out. Even though it will probably never happen, I've thought about it and I'm prepared.

could it be that the woman sexually assaulted was dressed inappropriately? although the news is alarming, we women must also do our part in being modest, and not attract the attention of those men who may be sexually pre-occupied (SPO). we can also have some lessons on self-defense to save and protect ourselves from these SPO's.

@sol_cee then that SPO should be, if caught, 'tadtarin ng pinung-pino' and be fed with the vultures, and since there are no vultures here, they should be given to ORCA the killer whale as baits. these SPO's do not even think they came from a woman's womb.

@sol_cee Of course it can be. We just need the proper method to do it.

Instead of not taking the elevator with a man, perhaps they should suggest how a woman can be prepared if a man assaults her In an elevator, a parking lot, on the stairs or where ever. Know what you will do IF it happens, and do not hesitate to do what it takes.

sounds good to me. I think there should be women only things. some of us can not defend ourselves.

I think women do need to learn to protect themselves but really isn't it easier to just be vigilant and try to avoid potentially dangerous situations. I am not comfortable alone in an elevator with a man I don't know but talking to him makes you a human so that can help.

Yes I agree it would be nice to not to have to worry about such behaviour.... You say you have women only train carriages, ? we don't... I expect that is quite comforting to some...
