Alot of people would call these individuals obsessive or just plain crazy. Is preparing for uncertain events that could and are likely to happen, like natural disaster, food shortage or even a complete collapse of the dollar really all that unreasonable? When it all hits the imaginary fan, im sure these people will be sure glad they took steps to buy physical insurance on uncertain economic times.

I think they are smart. They'd rather be prepared then caught off guard. No harm in being safe especially in these times.

I was raised by Grandparents who lived through WW2 in Germany, so being prepared with food and essentials was a normal way of life. Over the last couple years my husband and I started to prep a little more for a shtf situation.

True enough these kind of people are thought to be doomsayer. But in the end they have the last laugh.

These days folks call you a "prepper" and laugh behind their hands. Or ask if you are Mormon. Not so long ago, it was just considered normal and prudent to have an emergency plan, food and water, emergency supplies, and even a small bomb shelter. Most would consider me a prepper - I want to be prepared for any emergency, large or small, and life is far more uncertain than most people realize.
