Favourite Poem

My favourite poem since I was 12 years old.

My favourite poem is possibly one of Tennyson's most famous, The owl. It's been my staple favourite since I was 12 years old and I came across a book of his poems in the library. When cats run home and light is come, And dew is cold upon the ground, And the far-off stream is dumb, And the whirring sail goes round, And the whirring sail goes round; Alone and warming his five wits, The white owl in the belfry sits. When merry milkmaids click the latch, And rarely smells the new-mown hay, And the cock hath sung beneath the thatch Twice or thrice his roundelay, Twice or thrice his roundelay; Alone and warming his five wits, The white owl in the belfry sits. I adore the imagery it creates of an otherwise unwitnessed escapades of some form and an industrial world that just carries on regardless. Out of intrigue, what's everyone's favourite poem and why?

I love many poems and poets. My favorite longer poem is The Goblin Market by Christina Rossetti. I love its complex and beautiful tale of sacrificial love. My favorite sonnet is John Donne's Holy Sonnet 14 because it gives such a personal perspective on the human/divine relationship.
