If you could only buy one more thing what would it be ...

I'm slowing moving to a more minimalistic lifestyle where I value experiences more than possessions. I realise that memories are in our minds and not in the physical things that surround us. We just use physical things to trigger those memories, although a simple digital photo is enough in most cases. The move towards Minimalism is a slow journey for me as I learn to let go of things I think I'll need rather than the ones I actual use. But that said, Minimalism doesn't mean you have to live a life without possessions but rather only have the ones you need. A few benefits of Minimalism are less dusting, less storage and more freedom to travel and live in different places. So if you could buy just one more thing, what would it be...

Do you mean you don't have a fridge in your home or in your room?

I would buy me another smart phone with the latest features on it. A smart phone will keep me in touch with my loved ones and the worlk I do online.

@quantum2020 I prefer a laptop over a smartphone as I need to do video editing. Although, a Smartphone and laptop are my top two tech items I can't live without.

Yeah, what do we really need in life. Shelter, Food, Water, Warmth the rest is just a way to spend your money.

I couldn't possibly choose. I don't think there's much chance of my ever embracing minimalism though I'd like to reduce the amount of stuff in my life.

@mlot123 I don't buy as much as I used to, but there's a lot of stuff I'd find it really difficult to part with. And then there's the "stuff" that is alive - my bonsai trees. I'm constantly propagating new trees from the branches I remove. Those trees are like members of my family.

:-) Thanks for being so honest. Unfortunately, most of us embrace consumerism without giving it a second thought. And over time, we accumulate 'stuff'. I stopped and questioned why I was always buying 'stuff' and it turns out I was bored or needed a distraction. Since getting busy as a blogger, I rarely have the time to muck about. Rather I try to live my life with more intention.

@Gina145 Only extreme Minimalists don't own anything. The fact that you nurture your bonsai means it's important to you. However, if you have to start dusting your plants, that's a totally different story.

Probably an incinerator to get rid of stuff! I'm not really trying to be a minimalist but I am decluttering.

I've been working on trying to get rid of things. They say less is more and I'm trying to deplete unnecessary stuff. :)

Same Here. I've taken the longer road to reducing my consumption, but I'm certainly on my way to a more minimalist lifestyle.

I am learning to live a simple and minimalistic life as well, but there are still a lot of clutters in my home. I am thinking, if I could just buy one more thing, it'd be FOOD. I think that's what I really need. At first I thought of books, but those are what I want, not what I need.

Nice answer. But as a Minimalist, you are allowed to have material possessions. It just needs to be stuff you use. Food is a given, so treat yourself to one other item you'd use every day. Tip: To de-clutter your wardrobe, move everything to one side and then as you use the garment move it to the other side. After a year, reassess what isn't getting worn and donate it to charity. You can use a similar technique in the kitchen.

it would probably be something electronic or technology related. Or, it may be a book. I know minimalists hate books but that is the way it is with me.

@mlot123 I have not developed love for ebooks on the web. I have some but I want to read a book til I fall asleep. I can't snuggle up to a computer in bed. I do keep my books moving, giving them to friends or donating them.

Yeah, dust collectors ;-) I read eBooks when I can and I'm getting into audio books. However, I still read traditional books but choose to borrow them from the library instead of buying them.

@akalinus Yeah, it's a tough call, and waking up next to your book is much more comforting than rolling over onto a protruding e-book reader edge. It's great you move them on. Book swaps are so underrated.

@mlot123 I can imagine no side tables, TV or mirrors, but where is the dresser? Besides beds (I co-sleep with my children), our small bedroom can only fit a wardrobe and a small side table.
