First Performance in 1000 years

United States

Not even our Great Greats have heard this one! Was just reading an article I came across about a performance that happened yesterday. 11th Century songs were brought back to life, after nearly two decades of research and study. The article goes on to talk about how music was written / read back in the 11th century, and a little on what it took to translate the music into notes we could play today. The piece they played from was presumed lost, after a man in the 1800's "accidentally" took it from Cambridge University. Article :
An ancient song repertory will be heard for the first time in 1,000 years this week after being ‘reconstructed’ by a Cambridge researcher and a world-class performer of medieval music

It would be interesting to listen to a song which was made 1,000 years ago.

Yes, perhaps they'll do more performances of it, and televise / radio broadcast it.

@quantum2020 I would think so as well. The instruemnts they would have used would be quite different than what we have today.

Yes. I imagine it was very haunting and beautiful to hear. I'd love to hear it myself.

well isn't that something different. I would guess music was written different back then. An ancient song will be heard for the first time in 1,000 years. Don't know if I am interested in hearing that or not.

@ScribbledAdNauseum I would not be a bit surprised if it didn't sound kind of strange.

@Marcyaz It would definitely be a far cry from what we are used to today. Even our "New Age Classic" Musicians sound distinctively different from their older classic counterparts.

I know I would be definitely interested in hearing it. YEs the music was written different, we didn't have the music notes like we do today. i think it would be a very chilling experience, surreal almost.

I honestly have no idea how to respond to this because I am not sure if you are being serious or joking.

Wow! True history in the making! I wonder what the writing looked like! I know it took a little time to develop the music notation we use today.

The link I posted talks about it. I think our notes were developed a century or so after this piece was originally composed.
