Debate: Abortion

What do you think of abortion? (No bashing.) I am all against abortion unless it is absolutely necessary. My reasons are that if you don't want a child or can't take care of it, put it up for adoption. Change aBoRtion to aDoPtion. Evry human being deserves a chance at life. I can only see abortion if the baby is still born (dead.) Just see the photo for this blog debate. I also think if you want an abortion that is not necessary, then you should pay for it, not the state. What are your thoughts?

My daughter's bio dad had hinted at such a thing when I found out I was pregnant. I had spent six years in my first marriage trying to get pregnant, there was no way I was going to abort one after all the grief I went through. Not only that though, I agree that a baby deserves a chance at life. They didn't make the choice to be created. But God did. And I don't think we have a right to play God. Unless of course it's for medical reasons. My sister had an ectopic pregnancy. She had had her tubes "tied" and got pregnant; the fertilized egg remained in the tube as it had no exit. I don't consider than an abortion though. She would have lost the baby anyway. I can't imagine life without my daughter... even though I raised her alone for a year or so, it was the best year of my life.

@Mike197602 Not sure whether you're asking me, but yes. I am against ending the life of a human being who has no say in the matter. Life begins at conception.

Love is everywhere if you adopt! I couldn't imagine life without my children either. I have had 4 miscarriages.

Are you absolutely against abortion or do you agree in certain circumstances? Also I wondered if the stage of the fetus has any bearing on peoples opinions. leaving aside all other issues I do have a problem, a very big one, with late term abortions.

My thoughts are that I am pro choice but anti abortion in a way. It is a very messy subject but one I always respond to when it comes up. I am adopted and my biological mother was Irish Catholic so she was anti abortion. I got a nice childhood through adoption. IF my biological mother wasn't a Catholic, and due to her situation, I suspect I would have been a terminated pregnancy...so even though I'm anti religion maybe I got my life through someones religious beliefs...I think about that a lot. But I'm still pro choice because there are a lot of issues. If I got someone pregnant in the UK there would be absolutely nothing I could do as a potential father to stop a termination...nothing in UK law allows me to do that. But I also see it is the woman that has to carry the child and potentially put her life at risk with the pregnancy and giving birth. Also there are things like rape or risk to the mother where I'd support a termination. So my opinion is I'd support the womans right to choose until males are able to carry the pregnancy.

@Mike197602 You make very good points. Pro-abortion and pro-choice are two different things. But as said earlier, it should not be used as birth control.

Personally I wouldn't ever have an abortion. I found out my son is disabled at 36 weeks pregnancy and I was asked if I wanted to have an abortion for medical reasons. I said no way and I let my son be born. In England we have the National Health Scheme which gives free abortions. I think two doctors have to agree that it can happen. A pill can give an abortion up to 9 weeks pregnancy. That has to be given in a medical setting and most people have the pregnancy ending on their way home. There are some private abortions clinics in England as well They have quite high fees. I think people should pay. I think abortion is sick and every baby should be wanted that is born. In the 1960s in England and even in the 1970s unwanted babies were adopted to loving couples. My mum's friend Jo and her husband adopted 2 babies. At school I had friends that had been adopted. Rachel was adopted and when she grew up she married a taxi driver. Nicole was adopted and she grew up in a rich family. Now she is older she has depression and she wasn't able to have any children.

I knew a lady that fostered two little girls until they were adopted. My son was able to play with them. I hope these two girls have a great future.

Abortion ends the life of a human being. I do not believe anyone has the right to end the life of anyone else, regardless of their age, size, or location.

My 2 little big brothers are my step brothers and when my mom broke the news to my brothers that I wasn't biologically related to them, they didn't even care.

Abortion should not be used as a means of birth control. Abortion is just wrong.

I agree with you although I accept there are valid reasons for abortion. I am pro-life. Some people mistake pro-life for pro-birth or anti-abortion. I'm not the kind who would go around protesting or telling people what they can and can't do, only someone who does not see that abortion should be seen as an easy option and who would sooner support someone in raising a child than in killing one.

I think that every woman has the right to do whatever she wants with her body. who are we to decide that if a girl got pregnant after a rape she should keep the child? it's cruel

My feeling is this - I would not have one. But, I'm fine with Planned Parenthood being around...who am I to tell another woman how to live her life? If a woman has one, that is between them and God.

I think Abortion is just a get out of jail free card devised so doctors can line their pockets with dough. Because adoption doesn't seem to be an option for these unexpecting "mothers." And then you've got the guilt cards of "rape" and "guilt over giving it up for adoption." I don' think I need to explain why those excuses irritate me to no end. Because there have been rape victims who've kept the children and raised them to be upstanding citizens and mothers who gave their kids up for adoption either moved on or took back their kids. So if you want my assessment for abortion, it's something used only by the weaklings of this world who cn't cope with the curve balls life throws t them and nothing more. And yeah, hospitals and clinics need a source of money and they're a way to make a quick buck.

Yes it is. If women don't want babies then they should go on birth control, do adoption or get their tubes tied.
