$1600 Bill for Hugging a Carpet!

United States
April 25, 2016 7:03pm CST
A while back I posted about passing out and needing to go to the emergency room for treatment. Thankfully I was only dehydrated. As a result, I now make sure that I consume a lot of water! Well today, I get a bill from the rescue squad for $1600 for their services. This included an EKG on the way to the hospital. Guess they wanted to make sure it wasn't my ticker. Tomorrow I will call them to see if they will bill my insurance. Not sure the insurance will cover the cost though. Won't hurt to try. If they don't cover it, they will get a $10 a month payment from me. Times are tough. Moral of the story, don't hug a carpet at 2 in the morning. It could be costly.

I have no insurance. I was billed $1800 for blood work, pee sample, and they gave me fluids. They wrote me a prescription and that was $25.00, the prescription itself cost me $4.00. I pay $91.00 a month.

I also have a $200 bill to pay off for the hospital visit. Insurance covered most of it. But that copay pinched.

@ScribbledAdNauseum they did give me two units of fluids, took xrays of my knee that I fell on when I passed out. Gave me nausea meds. I would have rather taken a week's vacation.

@ElusiveButterfly DId they give you fluids? all of this was from the clinic, affiliated with a major hospital here. I didn't take an ambulance luckily I didn't pass out from it.

when it comes to health places you tell them what you are willing to pay. they pretty much have to take it. Insurance aught to cover some, but if they dont, whatever, 10 dollars a month go! And maybe look and see if your area has the 60 a year free ambulance ride thing

There is no such thing in our area. I will end up paying them $10 a month. That will take a while to pay off but oh well.

@Jessicalynnt I know a few that have been threatened to send to collections. But as long as they are cashing that check every month they are accepting the payment. You are okay with making that payment amount.

@ElusiveButterfly pretty much, and as long as you make those payments they can't turn you into collections or anything, it is my understanding of medical bills anyways

You were dehydrated and passed out I didn't know being dehydrated could do that. The rescue squad is not cheap but if you have insurance they should pay for it if not then I guess the ten a month will just have to do.

I hope they will pay for some of it.

That is surely expensive. How about the people that don´t have the money?

@marguicha I wish my husband had driven me there. But, to be safe, he had the ambulance drive me.

@ElusiveButterfly In that sense, my country´s health care is better. When there is an emergency, there is no charge, no matter what expensive hospital (the one nearest) you are taken. After the emergency is over, they ask you what do you want to do (and what can you pay) from then on.

I find your health system so complicated in the U.S.

That's the cost alright. Wow! It's amazing isn't it? It's best to carry a water bottle with you when you travel.

Here in Canada we have what they call a Free Health System. But I find that more and more we are paying for certain things. When taking an ambulance, they charge me only $40.00 which is okay with me.

Nothing is free here. Only those on public assistance get a free ride.

Wow, that seems exhorbitant. You should come to England if you feel like carpet hugging again - it wouldn't cost you anything.
