Yes, yesterday my husband’s auntie , the sister of my mother-in-law arrived from the USA. Actually she has been retired from her work since February 2015 , but she said she’s having a hard time getting a buyer of her house including its contents there, so she cannot say when she will finally be coming home . Thus , we don't expect her to come home this soon . Her American husband died more than 10 years ago . Since 5 years ago , we had a room at the second floor added , for her . It’s already filled with boxes from her that she keeps sending through those 5 years , though we didn’t open them . It was her nephew who is a captain of a Boeing , who fetched her in Manila , let her stay for the night at their house and got her a flight to Legazpi City , the next day , last Sunday . We were all so surprised at the house when she arrived . The sister of the pilot fetched her from Legazpi airport , because she said she cannot contact my husband again . Imagine , she travelled alone at the age of 82 ! And she still can drive she said , so she wants us to look for a car for her to buy so she can drive the car and we will go to places here . I wish to be like her , no ailments yet at age 82 and is still so active .

When he ang my grandmommy were that age they travelled thru and fro the US by themselves. At that age my grandfather was a volunteered worker at the LA City Hall and my grandmother also volunteered at the hospital because they were bored at home. Until now at 95 my granddad still reads without glasses. I don't think I could be as healthy as him though.

@SIMPLYD he drank a bottle of pale Pilsen every single night without a miss. He walks a lot and talks a lot to people. Other than that he doesn't have any kind of special secret.

I hope I'm still healthy enough to drive when I turn 82 in eight more years. I'm still young at heart, though.

Really . I wonder why they look younger than people of their age here . Could it be because it's cold there that can somehow preserve their skin unlike here where it's hot and can make the skin wrinkly at an early age . She actually look younger than my mother in-law who is 5 years younger than her .

people of older age are still as strong as the people of today, mainly because during their time, the only diseases they have had were tuberculosis and cancer, and the cancer was treatable yet. it is also rare now to find senior citizens still able to drive a car. i appreciate your sister-in-law being one of the many who can still travel and ride alone on a plane

Yes, i agree to that . They grew up eating simple foods so their body don't have much of those processed foods yet that can cause the body to be unhealthy . She's my aunt -in-law , my dear and yes she's that amazing . So i suppose at that age you will still be driving your car too .

@ida123 Yes, i agree that you shouldn't let him drive anymore . My father stopped driving when his car that he was driving fell into the side ditch while driving home. He fell asleep while driving because he is diabetic .

@SIMPLYD That is one of the reasons why I don't let him drive anymore, his eager to drive but his capacity is already declining so better get a professional driver for him.

Hmmm my aunt might come home too after a few years. But unlike your husband's Auntie, my Aunt isn't that active anymore because she had undergone brain surgery and half of her body was affected.

@SIMPLYD yes, she worked there as a nurse but I don't kniw if she's getting free treatments. What I know is, she and her husband are receiving free medicines there and they also have their own house and their one and only son. My grandmother once told me that they(my Aunt and Uncle) might no longer come home because of their health.

@LdeL0318 Yes she told us that she never came home for a vacation after her 1995 vacation here , because she might not want to go back there anymore . Her late husband told her that they will be retiring here . Sadly , he passed away after how many years after that .

@sol_cee Yes. Sometimes she can't control speaking in English , though she speaks Bicol fluently still . She even told us a story where the Filipinos meet in a social gathering and a Filipina keeps speaking in a very slang English . Then she asked in Tagalog ," how many years are you here already in the US ? " . Then the woman said " 3 years " . Auntie blurted out , "only 3 years yet you cannot speak our own language anymore . " Me i am here for more than 20 years yet i always speak Tagalog in this kind of gathering . " The woman blushed and spoke in Tagalog .

A co-worker of ours who is also our neighbor, also arrived last night but I've not seen him personally yet. We're not even sure if his children have also come along with his wife. They have been in the States for, I guess more or less, 20 years now. They rode on a tinted van and a double cab was following from which I saw that there lots of huge travel luggage. My wife and I think that he and his wife might be staying for good. Or they could only be on vacation but our guess that they'll be staying is bolstered by the fact that his nephew and nice who are presently staying in their house were very busy the past 2 weeks having the roofing sheets replaced and having others works on the house. We'll be finding out that soon when we get to meet our co-worker and his wife.

I have observed that most of those who have worked abroad , once retired would go home for good in the Philippines . It only means they still consider the Philippines as their home , as the saying says "home is where the heart is " .

That's what is good in the US . They still are eligible to work even at 60 and above . Here , once you are already 50 and above , some companies offer early retirements , so they can hire new employees at a lower pay already . And companies have age requirements for hiring new employees , they should not be over 35 .

No. She actually avoids the heat outside as she experienced yesterday when she and my mother-in-law went to the bank yesterday . Indeed , that's why she's having trepidation of buying a car for herself and driving it . She said she never wants to go downtown again in the town we live , where she saw the cars and tricycles driving past each other .
