I was on my way to a university when I suddenly remember that I need to check my emails. I went to the nearest computer shop but when I saw the refusal notification from the Australian Embassy regarding my tourist visa, I felt dejected. I opened my facebook account and talked to my best friend about it. He tried to give me comforting words but I still feel down. The last thing I did was to just log out my facebook account and then headed to the counter to pay for the rent. I was already on my way home when I thought of my gmail. I could not remember if I log it out or not. I wonder if someone used that computer and open his gmail if mine will still be logged in or not anymore.Have you experienced the same situation before?

It depends. We own a computer shop. If the PC's there are running Deepfreeze App, your gmail won't be there anymore once the PC is shut down.

@hereandthere It's a program being installed in your PC the if it's enabled it will freeze your computer and changes will not apply. You can still do the normal things you do but all the saved datas will not be there anymore upon restarting. For example, you made a word document and saved it in your PC, after restarting that file won't be there anymore, same as for viruses and malwares.

@LdeL0318 the computer is restarted every time there's a new user, but nothing is saved from the previous user, correct?

Do you remember if you closed the browser? If you did you are automatically logged out from gmail.

@annierose If you closed the browser, do not worry, nobody had been able to see your mail. You can change your password if you feel safer.

That is a good habit. When my mind is too busy on something, I tend to be mindless of what I am really doing.

No, I haven't. I have never used a public computer to open my email and in fact I couldn't remember the last time I used a public computer. I hope that you were able to log out. If not, I think you should try to log in to your email now and change the password immediately.

Sorry that this happened to you. I'd feel uneasy if I were in your situation. Hope you did logout the gmail, and the next guy who used the computer didn't read yours but just log out. I have not experience the same before, as I haven't been using a shared computer for quite a long time. While I was studying in university and used the computer in the lab, Internet and emails were not so easy to access, so I always remembered to logout.

That is a good habit. I also do same except that day that I felt I was not myself. It was because of the frustrations I felt about the result of my 2nd application for a visa.

yes, i've rented PCs at internet cafes but always made sure i logged out way before the time allotted. i guess you were "not yourself" that time so it slipped your mind. i'm sure you'll be careful next time.

I haven't use public computers or for rent computer if I do, I might log out that because if someone will notice it, they might see any private message or any important message. Do turn off your mail after using even you use your own computer, if someone might see it and private, that might cause harm.

Perhaps there might be an accident where you are going to open it and the information here might come in handy in case you accidentally forgot to sign out which I hope will not happen.

I am not sure but some PCs keep an account logged in unless it is logged out. I think the best you can do is to change your password NOW. Next time, open it in an incognito tab so that even if you forgot to logout, the PC will not save your history and cookies.

When I use a public computer to upload my manuscripts, the computer logs out when I pay the bill. Hopefully yours did that as well.

I haven't experienced the same situation. I don't open my accounts in computers that are not mine. It is not advisable.

I also would not like to open my gmail in computer shops unless there is something important I want to get from there. I usually send my important documents to my gmail.
